OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE NEW REPUBLIC
In the year 1777-8 two proclamations were issued commanding all men over 18 years of age to declare their allegiance to the new government by taking the following oath.
"I (Name) do swear that I do not hold myself bound to yield any allegiance or obedience to the King of Great Britain, his heirs or successors, and that I will be true and faithful to the State of Maryland, and will to the utmost of my power, support and maintain and defend the freedom and independence thereof and the government as now established against all open enemies and secret and traitorous conspiracies and will use my utmost endeavor to disclose and make known to the Governor of some one of the Judges or Justices thereof, all treasons, or traitorous conspiracies, attempts or combinations against the State or government thereof, which may come to my knowledge."
At the D.A.R. Library in Washington D.C. are three Volumes of"Unpublished Maryland Revolutionary Records" Volume III give returns of those taking this oath of Allegiance.  In returns of Gerrard  Briscoe is Josiah Darby (No. 22, page 1); in returns of Edward Burgess are George Darby (No. 230, page 19) and Basil Darby (No. 230, page 19); in returns of William Deakins, Jr. is Asa Darby (No. 4, page 39); and in returns of Elisha Williams is Benjamin Darby (No. 141, page 78).

John Sanders in 1840 census Tuscaloosa AL p 238.  Household is 1male age 20-30, 1 male age 50-60, 2 females age 5-10, 2 femalesage 10-15 and 1 female 15-20.
In the Orphans Court Book of 1846-50 his heirs are shown as Matilda Taylor, George W., John Jr. who married Jane Cameron 25Sep 1829 in Tuscaloosa, Ada D., William Henry Harrison, Ezekiel F., Harriet
A., Thomas, Arthur Foster, a daughter who marriedDavid Robertson, [Sarah ann] Amelia who married James H.Robertson, a daughter who married William White, [Katherine] adaughter who married William C. Arodine [sic, Nancy who m.William Carodine] and Mary Ellen born ca. 1809 in South Carolinawho married James Cherry ca. 1827 and died in Drew Co. AR ca.1866.  

According to Beasey Hendrix' Cemetery Records he was born 15 Jan 1785 in Chester SC and died 5 May 1847.  His wife Lydia Darby was born 9 Jul 1788 and died 22 May 1838.

William G. Caradine, in right of wife Nancy, said Nancy having departed this life, the same  will be paid to her five children, to-wit:  Thomas L. Caradine, Wylie Ward in rightof Wife Lydia, Elizabeth Caradine, Nancy Ann Caradine, Bird C.Caradine, all except Lydia being minors; George W.  Sanders, he having departed this life since the will, his part shall be paid to his four children:  Margaret Sanders, Alexander Sanders, Robert Sanders, G. W. Sanders.  Susan Sanders, guardian of  thefour above named. James Cherry in right of wife Ellen; David Robertson, in right of wife Sarah Ann; Asa D. Sanders; JohnSanders, Jr.; James H. Robertson in right of Wife Amelia;William White in right of wife Katherine; Eliza, daughter ofdeceased, who intermarried with Daniel Gallant, said Eliza having departed this life leaving one child, Martha Gallant, a minor.
