EDUCATION

I am currently enrolled at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Science, 3rd year undergraduate Honours Physics program.

 

I have a cumulative GPA of 8.0 on a scale of 9.

 

I received an NSERC research grant ($1450/month, summer 2001). 

 

I obtained the Chancellors Citation ($15, 000 over 4 years), as well as the Alumni Association Academic Excellence Scholarship ($2000, Sept. 1, 1999), and the Faculty of Science Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship ($1000, Sept. 1, 1999) from the University of Alberta.

 

I obtained the Jane-Ann Robertson Memorial in Physics ($750, Sept. 1, 2000).

 

Graduated from Campbell Collegiate high school in Regina, Saskatchewan, with 4 International Baccalaureate Certificates: Biology, Chemistry, Calculus and English respectively. 

 

Won a ‘minor award’ for extracurricular activities, and an academic merit award from the Board of Education, Saskatchewan.

 

I was in the French Immersion program from Kindergarten - Grade 9. 

 

EMPLOYMENT

 

May 2001 – August 2001                        Research with the SPARRO, a subatomic research group at the University of Regina.  I was involved in research and development of a barrel calorimeter for the Hall D project: an international collaboration intended for the Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia.  I was responsible for testing various scintillating fibres and new Hybrid Photomultiplier Tubes (HPMTs).

 

January 2001 – April 2001                        Marking 2nd year physics assignments for the department

                                                            of Physics at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta.

 

September 2000 – December 2000            Marking 1st year math assignments for the department of Mathematical Science at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta.

 

July 2000 – August 2000                        “Production Secretary” for the television program “Wild Lives” (air date September 7, 2000 on Discovery Channel Canada).  As well as regular secretarial duties (typing, photocopies, answering phones, sending memos), I was responsible for researching at the Saskatchewan Archives Board, selecting music for the program, maintaining a contact database and a music database.

 

May 2000 – June 2000                        Creating and filling a database for personal and corporate

                                                            clientele for SEE Accounting & Bookkeeping, using Microsoft Access 2000.

 

October 1998 – August 1999                        Cashier/Salesperson for Compucentre, a local computer store.

 

September 1997 – July 1999                        Teaching private and group lessons for beginner trombone players

Volunteered as supervisor at winter survival camp through scouts.  Supervised 20 scouts for a weekend winter camp.

 

 

SKILLS

 

I am familiar with PC, Macintosh and Linux machines.

 

Experienced with Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, Excel, Microsoft Access 2000, Netscape, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Latex, xmgr, xemacs, Midas, PAW++, Windows 3.x, 95, 98 and NT, Mac OS 7.5 and 9.

 

Typing approximately 60 words per minute.

 

Have programming experience with Turbo Pascal, HTML, Java and C++.

 

Familiar with most office copying machines, telephones and fax machines.

 

August 1999, I purchased a home computer, and was given the opportunity to build the system with assistance from the manager of the company.

 

PERSONAL INTERESTS

 

Member of the Lister Hall 10 MacKenzie indoor girls recreational soccer team (2000, 2001).

 

Beginner at Tae Kwon Do.

 

Trombone player for University of Alberta Concert Band.  Was involved in both concert and jazz bands at Campbell Collegiate. 

 

Taken private lessons through the Royal Conservatory of Music.  Involved in the South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, and University of Regina Trombone Ensemble.

 

Taken one year of modern dance at the Royal Conservatory.

 

Outdoors; past member of the Campbell Collegiate Outdoors Club.  Four season camping experience.  Canoeing, and indoor rock climbing experience.  Also a past member of Venturers: a scout-related group.
