Unit #3100 converted from LIRR FA #608. Used
with the orignal C-1 Bi-levels. Top photo is the unit seen on the west end of train #660 at Smithtown, NY.
Middle photo it is on the east end right behind the GP-38's. I also captured it heading west into the Southold station in
Oct.1998. It was an odd looking train since it had the #163, #3100 ,2 coaches and #261.
Both of the Metra E-8 photos were taken during the testing period
for the engines. Trains tested during midday for a couple of runs. I think that they were only in revenue service for a total
of two weeks (10 trips) until they were replaced by GP-38's 259-266.
