WWF MONDAY NIGHT RAW
January 19th 1998
Fresno, California

Vince McMahon and Jim Ross are your announcers.

Straight off the bat, "Sexy Boy" hits the speakers and the WWF Champion heads to the ring.

HBK - Alright Fresno! I know that many of you are wondering about
what happened last night at the Royal Rumble, and I think I
can explain the gist of it with a little attendance call. Bret
Hart is not here, whereas The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels is
most definitely in the house! Now then, on to...

Michaels stops in mid sentence as Shand Douglas, Chris Candido and the intercontinental champion Bam Bam Bigelow head to the ring.

Douglas - Hey champion! So you beat Bret Hart last night huh? So what,
he stopped being any good three years ago. I am the real
world champion, the ECW champion. I see you always come out
here with your little pussy boys DX, well this here (points
to Candido and Bigelow), this is the real Kliq, this is
          the Triple Threat!

HBK - You are the real world champion? Let me tell you something Dean,
ECW is nothing but a place where guys who couldn't cut it in the
big time wrestle Laurel and Hardy matches in front of half
filled arenas, so don't be telling me that you're the real
      worlds champion.

Douglas - Well how about this HBK, which stands for Homsexual Butt
Kisser by the way, ask Vince, my boys right here against you
and your boyfriend Jean Paul here tonight, and we'll see
          who can't cut it!

HBK - Well luckily for you, Hunter Hearst Helmsley ain't here tonight,
so there ain't gonna be no tag match.

Chris Benoits music starts to play on the speaker system and The Crippler heads to the ring.

Benoit - Shawn Michaels, I've never been in the same ring as ya, but
I've always respected ya. I would be honoured to be your
tag partner tonight, and I've got a score to settle with Bam
         Bam Bigelow.

HBK - Well Crippler, I've always respected your ability, and...

Candido - Oh please, if you guys wanna go out back and make love,
that's fine with us, just get out of our faces.

Benoit and Michaels then proceed to kick the hell out of the Triple Threat as we go to commercials

**Royal Rumble Update**

Cole - Hey everbody, I'm Michael Cole with your Royal Rumble update.
What a night it was in San Jose, California. Let's take you
back and show you some action from the cruiserweight title match.

(Breif clip of Devon Storm vs Rey Mysterio Jr from the Royal Rumble)

Cole - What a match! And remember folks, you can see the whole of
that match as well as much much more by ordering the 1998
       Royal Rumble replay!

Ross - Thanks Michael and welcome everyone to Monday Night Raw! And we
have it confirmed, right here tonight, it's gonna be the
WWF Champion Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit against Chris
Candido and the Intercontinental Champion Bam Bam Bigelow! But
now to the ring for our opening match.

Owen Hart/D-Lo Brown vs Harlem Heat

The Heat take control of the match early on as D-Lo and Owens team work doesn't seem as well tuned as it ought to be. But as the match progresses, it is Harlem Heat who seem to be having the problems and D-Lo gets the win for the Nation in just under twenty minutes. After the match, Booker T and Stevie Ray get into a brief shoving match before returning to the locker room.

Owen Hart and D-Lo Brown defeated Harlem Heat when D-Lo pinned Booker T after an elbowdrop from the second turnbuckle in 18-36 --- **

Ross - Now let's take you backstage to the winner of the 1998 Royal
Rumble, Rocky Maivia. Your boys in The Nation with a good
       victory there?

Rock - Owen and D-Lo did well but what I really wanna talk about is
the Rock. You see The Rock outlasted twenty nine other guys
last night and showed the whole world, why he is the best
damn wrestler there ever was. And as if that wasn't all...

Dustin Runnels enters the backstage area.

Runnels - Rock, when you threw me over the top rope at the end of the
Royal Rumble, you destroyed my chances of gettin' any respect
in this company. You destroyed my dreams and my ambitions and
I'm gonna get my revenge on you, maybe not today and maybe
not tomorrow, but I'm gonna get my revenge.

Dustin Runnels then leaves the backstage area.

Ross - Intrusion by Dustin Runnels. How about that Rock?

Rock - Ha ha, well I guess Mr Runnels obviously doesn't realise, is
that Rock couldn't give a damn about anybody else and, in terms
of eliminating him at the Rumble, the Rock frankly couldn't give
       a damn.

Ross - Thanks Rock. And now... well we have Barry Horowitz in the
ring ladies and gentleman. Over to you Barry.

Horowitz - As everybody knows, I was in the ring last night longer than
ANY other WWF wrestler, which makes me, in my honest
opinion, the toughest son of a (beep) in wrestling today.
So Stone Cold Steve Austin, I order you to come out here
right now, kiss my feet, and pay respect to the real
toughest son of a (beep) in the WWF.

"Kee-Rash"

Steve Austin hits the ring.

Austin - Did you just order Stone Cold Steve Austin to do something?

Horowitz - Yeah. I just ordered you to kiss my feet!

Austin - California, if you think I should kick his ass instead of
kissing his feet, then give me an oh hell yeah!

Fresno, California - OH HELL YEAH!

Austin - Horowitz, if you think you're so goddamn tough, I'll give
         you a match right now.

Horowitz - Fine. And then after I beat you, you can kiss my feet!

Austin - Ring the goddman bell.

Steve Austin vs Barry Horowitz

Stone Cold Stunner.

Steve Austin pinned Barry Horowitz with the Stone Cold Stunner in 0-15 --- .5*

Austin - And that's the bottom line because Stone Cold said so!

Ross - Welcome back everybody. Our next match is gonna be between the
two defeated teams in last nights triangle match, The Legion Of
       Doom and The Godwinns.

The Legion Of Doom vs The Godwinns

The Godwinns win a very poor match in close to twenty minutes when Henry Godwinn put Animal in the Slop Drop. The Legion Of Doom had dominated the match but their tiredness began to show as the match wore on.

The Godwinns defeated The Legion Of Doom when H.Godwinn pinned Animal with the Slop Drop in 16-43 --- *.5

Ross - Welcome back folks, and I'd like to take you back to last
nights Royal Rumble in San Jose. Rey Mysterio defeated Devon
Storm for the WWF Cruiserweight Title.

(Recap of finish to the previous nights match)

Ross - And now Mysterio is set to defend the title against the
finalist of the original title tournament, Pantera.

(WWF Cruiserweight Champion) Rey Mysterio Jr vs Pantera

Mysterio was undoubtedly the crowd favourite in this match, and the support of the crowd helped Rey to dominate his opponent. Pantera was allowed little offence as Rey pummeled him for over five minutes. Eventually Pantera left himself wide open to be caught in Rey's Springboard Hurricanrana for the pinfall.

Rey Mysterio Jr pinned Pantera with the Springboard Hurracanrana in 7-37 --- ***.5

(Rey Mysterio Jr retains the WWF World Cruiserweight Title)

Shawn Michaels/Chris Benoit vs Bam Bam Bigelow/Chris Candido

Benoit and Bigelow renew their rivalry as they start off the match. Benoit wants revenge for his defeat at The Royal Rumble and really goes to work on the champion. Benoit though missses an elbowdrop and Bam Bam takes control. The New Age Outlaws stroll to ringside at this point, to keep an eye on Shane Douglas. Benoit manages to make a hot tag out to Shawn Michaels, who dropkicks Bigelow out the ring. Bam Bam then tags in Candido, who is no more successful in the ring than Bigelow, and he too soon finds himself on the outside. Benoit and Michaels then do a great team job of controlling the match for the next few minutes. Candido though, manages to trap Benoit in an armbar submission hold, halting thier offense. Benoit manages to get to the ropes after being in the hold for close to a minute. Benoit then manages to hook Candido in the Crippler Crossface, but this time Candido manages to get to the ropes. Candido then is able to tag in Bigelow. As soon as Bigelow enters the ring though, Benoit takes the Intercontinental Champion down with a legsweep and puts on the Crippler Crossface! In the middle of the ring, Bam Bam has no choice but to submit, and Benoit gets some amount of revenge!

Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels defeated Chris Candido and Bam Bam Bigelow when Chris Benoit made Bam Bam Bigelow submit to the Crippler Crossface in 17-03 --- ****.25

The referee raises Benoits and Michaels' hands as the show goes off the air. The camera just has time to see the face of Shane Douglas who has a wry smile on his face.

Douglas - We'll see. We'll see.
