FRESSULY FIDELIS
**This interview is translated from Bahasa Malaysia to English. We apologise for any mistakes.
Reporter: Since when did you enter the chess world?
Fressuly: I started when I was eleven and had represented the school from the MSSD championship until the MSSM championship.
Reporter: How do you learn how to play chess… is chess just your hobby or serious interest?
Fressuly: It's easy… just use some intelligence. Every time I learn something, I'll try it myself first or see how others play and identifying every piece and its movement. In short, I learn by myself without teachings from others. I also get strong support from my parents. They always gave my positive views and support to me. Chess is only an interest to me but not exactly a hobby.
Reporter: What are your feelings every time you enter a competition?
Fressuly: The feeling of panic is always there. I think a lot by then too, like "Is this guy good?" or "Is there hope to win?" But I've gone through it with self-confidence.
Reporter: What is the first thing you do before competing?
Fressuly: I'll always pray first…
Reporter: What is your feeling when announced winner?
Fressuly: Of course I'll be happy because it's not easy to be the winner after for so long joining the competition and meeting with all sorts of people. I'm grateful and thankful to those who had supported me all the way so I'll be active in chess.
Reporter: This time I would like to ask your secret to success, if you don't mind.
Fressuly: Hmm… One of my secrets are positive thinking, the rest are a little 'private'…
Reporter: Have you ever thought of being a famous chess player in Malaysia or worldwide?
Fressuly: Of course everyone wants to be famous but it's not going to be easy. But if I want I'll have to work hard too.
Reporter: By overall how many medals have you earned?
Fressuly: From 1995 until 1998 I have earned 13 medals and 12 certificates. The certificates and medals are my life's history as they are the results of what I've achieved.
Reporter: What is your comment about the game of chess?
Fressuly: Chess is a game that really challenges your mind. Don't forget… chess is a very popular game on this world. People who have been in this game for a long time don’t get emotional problems easily and it's verified by the Pegawai Kementerian Pendidikan himself.
Reporter: Looks like we'll stop here. Do you have any advice to all who are interested in this game?
Fressuly: All right… To all those who have the skill, prove it… Don't waste it because chess can help improve your IQ. Like someone said 'The more the back of a knife is sharpened, the shaper it gets, if you never tried it, who knows?' "Do Your Best In Chess, Be The Great Chess Player!"
