Comments: Produced to accompany an educational 35 mm filmstrip of the same name, "The Pied Pipers" album works well as a standalone item. Subtlety and balanced outlooks are generally absent as the uncredited narrator attacks the new drug culture and the repulsive musicians and hippie activists who promote it. Not even the Beatles get a free pass as 'the pied pipers' are denounced.
Done as late as 1969, this is more reminiscent of the dishonest 50s-flavored scare propaganda found on 1966-67 albums like "Battle Of The Mind", and one of the last such titles that I'm aware of. Highly selective quotes and dubious statistics are used to hammer the point home. It's pretty entertaining, and may have worked well at PTA meetings in church-going suburbs. It's also one of the rarer records in the genre, and is given further appeal by the priceless front cover.
