Scan Disk

1. Click, Start on Windows XP.

2. Click, My Computer.

3. Left Click, Local Disk (C:).

4. Click, Sharing and Security.

5. Click, Tools.

6. Error-Checking, Click Error-Checking, Check Now.
Error-Checking : Scans the Hard Drive for errors
This option will check the volume for errors

When you click you click the Error-Checking, Check Now; the computer will restart and run the Scan Disk. This works with Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
