AGATHA CHRISTIE
La briànica Agatha Christie, (1891-1976) Novelista anglesa, prolífica escriptora de novel·les policíaques va neixer a Torquay.
El seu primer matrimoni va ser amb Archibald Christie, de qui va adoptar el cognom, però va finaitzar el 1928 al descobrir que aquest tenia una amant. Una anècdota curiosa d'aquest incident va ser que l'escriptora va desapareixer duran 11 dies, i va ser tobada a la platja, i enregistrada en un hotel de mala mort amb el nom de l'amant del seu marit.
El 1930, durant un viatge per l'Orient pròxim, va conèixer un prestigiós arqueòleg anglés, Max Mallowan. Es van casar el mateix any, i desde llavors el va acompanyar a tots el seus viatges anuals a Irak i Siria.
El 1971 va ser condecorada amb la Ordre de l'imperi britànic.
La británica Agatha Christie, ha traduit les seves novel·les a más de 20 paisos, convertint-se en la indiscutible dama del gènere del misteri i policíac. Sense el seu Hércules Poirot, la seva Miss Marple, l'Inspector Japp, o sense la presència del detectiu Parker Pine, la novel·la de misteri no hauria aconseguit la popularitat de la que avui en dia disfruta (amb permis de A. Connan Doyle).
Las eva carrera va començar amb l'obra El misteriós cas de Styles, publicat el 1920. Algunes de les obres més destacades són: L'assasinat de Rogeli Ackroyd (1926), i Teló (1975), on es reprodueix la mort de Hercules Poirot, l'heroi de la majoria de les seves obres.
El llistat d'obres d'aquesta autora és molt extens, per tant, estarà classificat segons novel·les de misteri, poemes, i històries d'amor escrites sota el pseudònim de "Mary Westmacott".
