White Lies
Chapter 1

"Uh, Dot..."

"Yes, Enzo?" Dot, a beautiful and talented businesswoman who owned almost all of Mainframe, and was also Enzo Matrix' older sister turned her slender green face, with a serene smile upon it towards her brother's earnest face.

"Where do sprites come from?" Enzo looked into Dot's violet eyes, and tried with all his might to keep a straight face. Enzo knew perfectly well, where sprites came from, but he wanted to know what his older sister Dot would say, and how she would react. Dot's graceful face turned to one of shock, then one of blank horror. She didn't know how to answer Enzo's question, and began to feel her brain go numb, and her mouth go dry.

"Oh...Well...Uh...It's really simple, Enzo. Sprites come from...Er...How do I put this? Well, sprites come from their, uh...Bob!" Dot's frantic rambling turned to one of hope.

"Bob? What's he got to do with this? Bob doesn't make sprites!" Enzo's amused face became puzzled with Dot's babbling. He scratched his head, and then looked around. He noticed Bob had entered the Diner.

"Bob!" Enzo jumped out of his seat and pounced on Bob. Bob, unprepared, as always for this, looked shocked, and fell to the floor.

"Uh, Enzo. Great to see you. Hey Dot, what's processing?" Bob walked up to the counter and waited for Cecil to arrive.

"May I take your order?" Cecil zoomed over to Bob and asked in his snooty way.

"Yeah, Cecil. Can I get an Energy Shake?" Bob looked around him to see who was there. He then looked back at Cecil, and then down the bar, waiting for his energy shake, to quench his thirst.

"It's Cecil! Energy Shake at the bar!" Cecil hurried off in some unnoticed direction, while an energy shake flew down towards Bob in mere micro nanos. Bob picked up his drink and looked at Dot.

"Dot's Diner; fastest food in the Net!" Bob smiled, then chugged his shake down. He stood up and faced Dot and Enzo.

"Uh, Bob...Could you do me a small favor?" Dot turned her seductive violet eyes towards Bob's warm brown eyes. Bob's jaw hanged slightly ajar, his head tilted, then nodded forward. Dot batted her eyelashes a couple times then looked him straight in the face, with her matter-of-fact expression.

"CouldyoutellEnzowherespritescomefrom? You can? Thanks! Bye!" Dot blurted out her favor so quickly, Bob didn't quite understand what she was saying, and she rushed out of the Diner so fast, Bob couldn't decline.

"Tell Enzo where sprites come from? Where sprites come from...Oh!" Bob's face scrunched up with frustration at first, but then turned proud when he realized what Dot was saying. He thought about this for a moment, and his face turned from smooth blue to bright red.

"Something wrong Bob?" Enzo began to laugh inside himself, and thought; this is better then I expected! I thought Dot would make a fool out of herself, but know Bob will too! This is too much!

"Oh! Uh...Enzo, you don't really want to know...that...do you?" Bob looked at Enzo's curios face, then cleared his throat.

"Well...Sprites come from...Oh hi guys! Come sit over here!" Bob waved his arms frantically at Mouse, a computer hacker, and Ray Tracer, a search engine of the new generation. They looked at each other, then back at Bob.

"Uh...No thanks, mate. We'd rather be alone, if you know what I mean." Ray looked at Bob, trying to tell him something by wiggling his eyebrows.

"Of course I don't! Come on! Sit over here with Enzo and me! We'll have a blast!" Bob looked over at them with this desperate expression on his face. Enzo was laughing his head off.

"Sure Bob. Surfr and I'll be glad to sit with ya! Won't we sugar?” Mouse gave this look at Surfr, who threw his hands up and gave an exasperated sigh.

"Great! You two didn't want to be alone, did you?" Bob gave a big smile and made room for the two lovebirds in the booth he was in.

"Oh, no. We didn't want to be alone. What gave you that idea!" Mouse elbowed Surfr in the ribs, which got rid of that sarcastic tone of his.

"Ouch!"

"Well...since you two aren't busy, I'll leave Enzo with you!"

"Uh...Okay, sugar. Where you going?"

"Oh. Me? Uh...Gotta look for tears...You...know, the usual. Uh...While you're here, Enzo would like to know where-sprites-come-from! See ya!" Bob took off like a shot.

""Hmph! Everybody's taking off on me! And I have no friends my age to be with! It's not fair!" Enzo put on his pouty face and began to sulk.

"Aw, sugar. That's not true. Nobody's running from you. I'm sure they just have more important things to do."

"More important then me."

"That's not what I meant!"

"Nothing's more important then you! Besides, you have Frisket!"

"Frisket's to busy with Matrix to be with me."

"Uh...Well...We're here with you!"

"But you don't want to be! You're only here because Bob made you! Nobody likes me!" Enzo got up from the table and ran out the door, and away from the diner.

"Ah. Finally. Alone at last." Ray put his arm around Mouse, when she stood up.

"Not now. There's a game approaching!"

"How do you know?"

"I...hacked into the User's controls, and started one."

"What! How could you do that? You were sitting here the whole time!"

"Uh...It was on a timer? Let's just go."

"But we're finally alone, and ..."

"Come on!"

Mouse dragged Ray out of the Diner and headed for Kit's Sector.

"Bob!" Mouse ran towards Bob, leaving Surfr behind.

"Mouse. Nice to, um, see you." Bob was shocked to see Mouse so soon.

"Where's the game? What are we doing at Bob's apartment!" Ray began to get furious. He knew Mouse liked Bob, but he thought that was all over since they were a couple now.

"Oh...Um...I thought I saw it over here...heh heh..." Mouse began to blush and look at her feet. She had this crush on Bob, even before she came to Mainframe, and was always trying to be near him. She was only going out with Surfr to make Bob jealous, and because he was very cute.

"Mouse...uh...oh...This isn't a good time for you to be here!" Bob began to stammer and push the two sprites outside into the hallway.

"Yeah! Let's go Mouse. Spend some quality time together...alone!" Ray grabbed Mouse's purple wrist and tried to drag her out of the building, but Mouse had other plans. She yanked her arm away and growled slightly, while showing her fangs.

"Why? Why Bob! Who's over? Is it Dot? Is it!"

"Uh...no, Mouse. I'm just, uh...working on my car! Heh heh."

"Oh, Bob! Who's at the door?" Hexadecimal popped up behind Bob. Mouse was momentarily shocked, then punched Bob in the face.

"Ow! What was that for!" Bob rubbed his jaw, while Hexadecimal looked back and forth between Bob and Mouse.

"Oh, dear!"

"I can understand you two-timing me with that goody-goody, Dot! But three-timing us! And with Hex! A virus of all things! How could you!"

"So the truth comes out! You've been dating Bob! You've been two-timing me!"

"What do you mean by virus!"

"I'm only dating Dot!"

"Sorry about that sweetheart. I meant to tell you about Bob. But you were just to cute to let go!"

The four sprites began to argue vehemently. Dot walked up behind the angry sprites and began to evaluate the situation.

"Bob." Dot's quiet and unexpected voice stopped the shouting. They all turned to her, and Bob stepped forward.

"Dot! I...I wasn't expecting you until tonight!"

"I can see that."

"Huh? Oh! It's not what it looks like!"

"I hardly doubt Hexadecimal is here with Surfr...and Mouse. How could you Bob?"

"We were just leaving now. Right Mouse?" Surfr motioned towards the door.

"No. We weren't!" Mouse glared at Ray who was become furious. "Dot, Bob's been three-timing the two of us with Hex!"

"Bob!"

"No! It's not true!"

"Sorry Bob. Mouse, I can't put up with you constantly pushing me aside while you go after Bob. We're through. I'm out of here." Ray gave a longing look at Mouse, then took off.

"Ray!" Mouse called after Surfr but he just waved his hand and kept walking. Mouse growled softly then turned her attention back to Bob.

Dot was quietly looking at Bob, trying to determine what the truth of the matter was. Bob looked imploringly at Dot and tried to communicate telepathically. Hex had retreated inside the apartment and was lounging on Bob's sofa.

Mouse, who was jealous of Bob and Dot's relationship, saw this as the perfect opportunity to break it up. And while Bob was on the re-bound, hurt and depressed, she would be the one he'd turn to for comfort.

"It's true, Dot! I caught them together! I hate to say it, but Bob obviously doesn't love you the way you love him." Dot gave Mouse a heartbroken look and searched her eyes to see if it was true; to see if Bob had really betrayed her. "I'm sorry Dot, but it's true. Would I lie to you?"

Dot took a deep breath and wiped away a tear before it was seen. She heaved a sigh then looked Bob square in the face.

"Bob. I thought you were different. I guess I was wrong. I'm sorry." Dot glanced at Mouse's solemn face. "I'm sorry I ever fell for you." She took a deep breathe then continued before her heart broke in half in front of his face. "We're over too."

Bob's face fell and he tried to object, but Dot's silent tears were enough to keep his mouth closed. Dot then turned and ran off before she burst into a flood of tears.

"So does this mean the party is off?" Hexadecimal called out from inside as they looked towards her.

"Party? What party?"

"Hexadecimal and I were not having an affair. She was trying to help me plan a party."

"You mean -?"

"Yeah. You just ripped my happiness away with your accusations and lies." Bob felt his hand curl into a fist, and suddenly felt as though the air around him wasn't enough. "If you'll excuse me, I need some air." Bob left the room and stepped out onto the balcony.

Mouse was silent for a moment before her curiosity was too much to bear.

"What was the party for?"

"What party?"

"The one you were helping Bob plan."

"Oh! That party! Bob was going to propose to Dot."

"What!?"

"Yep." Hex flipped a page of the magazine she was looking at.

"And you were going to plan the party!?"

"I may be known as the Queen of Chaos, but I'm also known as Cupid!"

"Cupid?"

"To some."

Mouse was silent for a moment while she thought over what she had just learned.

"So does this mean Bob and..."

"Yep. Thanks to you, Bob won't ask Dot to marry him, and neither of them will ever truly be happy. And all because you claimed we were having an affair!" Mouse's stomach started to churn as she realized what she had done. "Isn't you're face red!"

Hexadecimal gave a malicious laugh as she got up and headed for the door.

"Tell Bob that I'm leaving."

Mouse stared at the floor while her inner voices tried to tell her what to do.

EVIL MOUSE: "Mouse-baby! This is your chance! Bob's available, and on the rebound!"

GOOD MOUSE: "No! You ruined his happiness and created this mess! Bob won't even speak to you!"

EVIL MOUSE: "What does she know! Bob would love some company!"

GOOD MOUSE: "No he doesn't! He want's to be alone!"

EVIL MOUSE: "Hex gave you the perfect opportunity to talk to him!"

GOOD MOUSE: "Fine. Go ahead and talk to him. But! You are only going to apologize, then leave! Nothing more!"

EVIL MOUSE: "Don't listen to her! You've always wanted Bob to be yours, and now he can be! No one can interfere now!"

GOOD MOUSE: "If you do it, you'll never be able to live with yourself!"

EVIL MOUSE: "Sure she will! She's done worse things before and look at her! She's breathing!"

GOOD MOUSE: "Don't do it Mouse! No good will come from it!"

EVIL MOUSE: "Do it!"

Mouse thought about what her inner voices said then made her decision.

. . .
