He had his own business on the
side through the years in which he collected extra
money by repairing TV's. He
was a die hard fisherman and made his own weights
and anchors.
Grandpap also reloaded shotgun
shells and was willing to teach anyone who had
an interest. Reloading shotgun
shells is an art in of its own.
She like my grandpap enjoyed
traveling and camping. Many times they have camped
accross country. She has an
abundance of stories to tell about their journeys.
In the summer of 1929 Grandma,
her parents, brothers and sisters traveled by
automobile on their three day
journey to Tennessee. There were main roads then
made of concrete. The first
stop would usually be in Ohio where they would pull
out a tent where Grandma's father
and mother and the rest of the children would
sleep. Grandma, June and Fern
slept in the car. The second stop was in Kentucky,
and the third day they had to
cross a creek (Morley River). The creek was up to
high due to rain. They had to
detour 125 miles to get to Edgan, Tn. In their route
they stopped at a gas station
and Harry asked about a place to sleep because of
it getting dark. The gas station
attendant invited the family to stay in his home.
They had a daughter my grandmothers
age who cooked for all of them. Upon
their departure Harry offered
to pay the man, the man refused.
Jenny (Harry's step-mother) was
staying with Cody (Earl Murray's brother) at
the time of the Remley's arrival.
Earl at 6 years of age was also living with Cody.
Grandma has an incredible memory
and without her rememberance, patience,
and her strong willingness I
would not have been able to accomplish this much
of our family heritage. After
five years of asking questions and taking notes this
is what has been accomplished,
and this is certainly more than enough information
for our family to follow up
on.
Not only does she have the strength
and willingness for our heritage, but also for
life itself. If you can sit
and watch her for just a few moments you, too will also be
amazed at her determination
as I am. Stubborn she is that, but without it she
wouldn't be MY grandmother and
her zest for life would diminish.
