Divine Strake, US Weapon of Mass Destruction (2.0 Trillion Dollar War)
border=0

"National security policies in the post-Cold War era require that all historical capabilities of the weapons laboratories, industrial plants, and NTS [the Nevada Test Site] be maintained," and that "denuclearisation . . . is not feasible based on current national security policy." - Statement by the Department of Energy

A US Military Weapon of Mass Destruction name Divine Strake

Definition of Divine; of, from, or like God or a god. Sacred.

On June 2, 2006 our great state of Nevada and its residents are being dangerously used as human guinea pigs in an international game of chicken in what is the precursor to an all out nuclear war with the nation of Iran. The decision to test Divine Strake, a 1,400,000 lb. Weapon of Mass Destruction, by the Pentagon's Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) wasn't told to Nevadans until a little over a month before the planned detonation just 65 miles from the city of Las Vegas. This weapon of mass destruction is designed to simulate the affects of a "low-yield nuclear weapon ground shock" similar to what would happen if it were to be dropped on Iranian topography. While DTRA told media outlets Divine Strake is not a nuclear simulation it told Congress and the Federation of American Scientist it is nuclear. One of the scientist with the Federation of American Scientists said the topography of the Nevada Test Site compares to Iran and the 700 ton detonation will resemble what would occur if a B-61 nuclear weapon were to be detonated. I assume the twisted logic is it will shock and awe the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad into submission. This dangerous game of who will blink first (Iran or The United States) set on by the Bush-Cheney White House is being played out regardless of the overwhelming health risk to every Nevadan -- this in spite of the fact that scores of experts have warned against it. The Bush-Cheney government hopes images of mushroom clouds rising over Las Vegas, Nevada will intimidate the President of Iran into backing down from that nations justifiable claims to nuclear energy development. A weapon of mass destruction code named Divine is slated to be dropped on an Islamic nation by a Christian nation and this makes sense to who?

The fault for this blatant affront to our health and safety here in Nevada goes to the Kenny Guinn administration. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection will be the state agency who will ultimately give the Department of Defense the go-ahead to conduct this misguided test -- one that will scatter the remnants of prior above ground nuclear tests to parts unknown throughout Nevada and beyond. The state of Utah is downwind from the Nevada Test Site and their state offices believe it will have negative health affects on their citizens as well. As our Las Vegas Valley grows in population incremental changes to our air quality standards must be adjusted so that harmful emissions, be they from automobiles or power plants or weapons of mass destruction tests fit the present reality. We see daily the destructive affects of off roaders (Dustholes) and we issue air quality alerts throughout the valley weekly, certainly the health affects of 1,400,000 lb. weapon of mass destruction being detonated should have an air quality control standard all its own. In an eight year McConnell administration there will be a moratorium on all nuclear testing in the state of Nevada both above and below ground. Testing alleged non-nuclear weapons of mass destruction like Divine Strake will certainly not meet the air quality standards of a modern Las Vegas of 2006.

"Our position is clear and well known. We are for the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction....But we believe that Iran must have an opportunity to develop modern technologies and peaceful nuclear energy." -Russian President Vladimir Putin

Congressman Gibbons' acquiescence to the Bush-Cheney agenda for war in Iraq, Iran and wherever the wind blows -- even if those winds are nuclear winds that poison Nevadans.

Regardless of the opinions of the experts telling them that Iran is years away from nuclear weapons capability the Bush-Cheney government is adamant on this bellicose posture that endangers the health, safety and property of all Nevadans (Democrat, Republican & Independent). Like you, I didn't move to Nevada to be President Bush's nuclear test guinea pig. On this president's watch the great city of New Orleans drowned, over a thousand human beings were killed by flood waters and his ineptitude and indifference to their suffering --to which he responded, "good job, Brownie." It could very well take the city of New Orleans a quarter century to rebound from Katrina's affects as a result of the levee systems that would have protected the city being neglected so the Bush-Cheney government could fund a war. In February, Governor Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency for California’s levee system and signed an executive order calling for the immediate repairs to 24 levees in very bad condition. However, Lynn Scarlett, then acting director of the Department of the Interior said, "she was impressed with how well the California levee system has held up and that she did not see any need for emergency federal assistance to shore up our levees." Governor Schwarzenegger told The Department of Homeland Security director Michael Chertoff he needs an estimated $6 billion to repair his state's levees but he won't be getting the federal relief he needs because they started a war in the Middle East with zero concern for the cost to our national infrastructures (schools, bridges, levees, health-care,etc). A Nobel Prize winning economist says the war in Iraq could end up costing us 2 trillion dollars when all is said and done. Now with this in mind why on earth would the Bush-Cheney government care at all about our health and welfare here in Nevada with visions of conquest in Iran their only concern at the moment. They think by giving us a new war in Iran it will distract us from their failed war in Iraq. The Governor's first and foremost duty is to safeguard the health and welfare of the citizens -- not fealty to corporate or governmental entities. Certainly not to partisan politics regarding life or death issues like weapons of mass destruction being tested in the state. The Bush-Cheney government remains adamant on standing in the way of non-partisan governors doing their appointed duty.

The former national security adviser to President Jimmy Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, penned an op-ed piece for the International Herald Tribune in which he states that if President Bush attacks Iran without congressional authority it would be an act of war which would be unconstitutional and merit the impeachment of the President. On the drawing board is war with Iran if they can sell it to the American people. War with Iran, like the invasion of Iraq was planned long ago by members of PNAC (Project for a New American Century) some of whom occupy the highest positions in our government (Vice President Richard Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld). The [Divine Strake] test planned for June 2, 2006 is part of the Pentagon's continuing search for what they call Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrators (RNEP) intended to burrow deep into rock before discharging its nuclear payload. The target of which will be nations like Iran which the Bush-Cheney government has decided are developing weapons facilities deep underground. They have been told these so called "mini nukes" don't work as intended and that they will simply create a radioactive crater at the surface whereby radioactive debris rains down over the entire battlefield area -- in this particular case the battlefield area will be the Nevada Test Site area and the Las Vegas Valley an area with nearly 2 million residents, not 50,000-60,000 residents of the 1950's when these sorts of tests were first conducted. I assume the Bush-Cheney White House thinks the 3 million tourist a month who normally visit Las Vegas will come to view mushroom clouds as if it were a NASA Space Shuttle launch, the Bellagio water show or the Paris casino's Eiffel tower and Arc de Triomphe. If the Pentagon seeks to test the newest line of weapons of mass destruction they need to be tested in the most sparsely populated area -- the state of Wyoming comes to mind it having the smallest human population of any state in the union. The state of Texas I'm sure has sparsely populated areas and lots of wide open spaces, it's far larger in land area than Nevada, test weapons of mass destruction there. Citizens of Wyoming can "take one for the team" and who better to explain the need than their own former Congressman and Vice President. Vice President Cheney is a former defense contractor who navigated himself into the Vice Presidency of our republic and we've seen more of him than any nation should of a Vice President and his handy work in regards to policy. His only political discipline is war armaments, without that utterly useless skill our nation has no use for V.P Dick Cheney. As Gerald Ford's chief of staff he was told by Ford to provide him with a list of names to be his Vice President when Ford was to become President after Nixon's resignation and Dick Cheney came back with names for sure, one of them being his own name. He's a sick and near death creature (obsessed with BDSM subculture) who is determined to drag us all into the grave with him when he goes. The Vice President told the world we'd be greeted as "liberators" in Iraq and the war wouldn't last more than a few weeks. A few months ago on the third anniversary of the war, with a civil war gaining strength he told us the so called insurgency was in it's "last throes" for a second time. All Americans, especially Nevadans, should rent a movie called Why We Fight on DVD to get a better understanding of how the Military-Industrial-Congressional complex works and the role a Dick Cheney type character plays in steering us into wars based solely on profit motives.

President Bush, Vice President Cheney -- include Nevada out.

Our nation along with Britain have been down this path once before with the nation of Iran. We overthrew the duly elected Prime Minister of Iran [Mohammed Mossedegh] in 1953 and made the Shan of Iran, Mohammad Rezi Pahlavi, supreme autocrat. That whole fiasco backfired in 1979 when the Shah was forced to flee and the Ayatollah Khomeini came to power and turned Iran into an Islamic Republic -- which is where we are today.

To further stir the emotions of the American public in their quest for war the Bush-Cheney government has its media sycophants peddling erroneous statements by the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. Americans can find out for themselves what President Ahmadinejad has to say on international matters themselves without the Republican party dominated media's fabrications. The Bush-Cheney government deeply depends on Americans remaining uninformed on these important matters in much the same way the Nixon Government depended on it. But the internet allows us unprecedented access to information they need to keep from us in order to sell the lies that led to our nation unilaterally invading Iraq.

The Bush-Cheney government needs a old cold warrior minded Governor of Nevada like Congressman Jim Gibbons to go about continued testing of weapons of mass destruction like Divine Strake. Why else inject a Washington D.C. inside player into what is normally the political terrain of locals politicians to battle over. A Jim Gibbons governorship would come complete with exactly the same political narcolepsy, ineptitude and partisanship of his congressional days and more acquiescence to whatever war plans come down the pike, just look at his method of operation.

Talk of Islam-Fascist (whatever that is) by the President would, without a doubt, be parroted by Congressman Gibbons if he was elected Governor of Nevada. To any Republicans reading this, to vote for Congressman Jim Gibbons is to essentially say you'd vote for the Bush-Cheney government all over again -- and that would be virulent insanity knowing now what you didn't know before. Examined carefully you'll see our great state of Nevada is scheduled for termination as far as human habitation is concerned. Ask yourself, why drop a tourism based state that takes in nearly 40 million visitors a year from Homeland Security funding, plan a Yucca Mountain project expansion from it's original 77,000 tons of nuclear waste to 628,000 tons of nuclear waste (which is essentially allocating enough space to house all the nuclear waste on earth) or shove nearly 9 million pounds of mercury down our throats unless human habitation of Nevada isn't going to matter -- do the math yourself.

It is a historical/political fact that every nation that gets caught up in this dangerous brand of militaristic nationalism has for all intents and purposes completely lost its way. Some nations find their way home while others self-destruct.

How those nations manage to self destruct is they sincerely believe that sort of blindness could never happen to them or they come to see themselves as the victim and behave as if they were the ones wronged. Let not our political epitaph be that of a nation that commits Crimes against Humanity in the name of empire. We are well on our way to being a once great nation that was foolishly led into the abyss by two men to whom human life had little if any value. President Bush may talk to God, he may even think he hears God answering back -- but he won't get to play God with the health and safety of Nevadans if those same Nevadans see fit to send me to Carson City as their next Governor. Only the dumbest of the dumb still believe The Almighty would give George W. Bush the time of day let alone have a meaningful conversation with him.

Together we can stop this Bushification of Nevada. An eight year McConnell governorship will be "mushroom cloud, Yucca Mountain Project, mercury shipment free" I assure you. Yes, we can!

Liberal Democrat for Governor of Nevada, 2006

If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." - John F.
