The Power of One

    by Teresa Carr

My local church started a reading program to encourage people in the congregation to not only read but to encourage us to be warriors for the Gospel and to help those who are lost and in need of God’s salvation and blessing. When I think of the power of what one person can do to change the world around them. Just to save one soul for the kingdom of God is the greatest gift of all. Reading about the Power of One was encouraging and uplifting to know that no matter how small or great the purpose that is done by one person it can change a life forever. Even through adversities, our courage and wisdom are testimonies to the awesome power of the Lord God. That’s what Daniel did. He was captured as a youth along with his three friends from his home of his ancestors, Israel by a foreign enemy called Babylon. It was Daniel who purposed in his heart not to defile himself in a pagan society. He was going to live a life purposed for the Lord, Yahweh, which his parents had taught him as a child to follow the ways of the one true God. Christians of today can follow the example of Daniel. When Jesus came to earth he knew his mission on earth was to save that which is lost. Jesus said that the well needs not a physician, but the sick. Christians need follow these examples in helping others to lead them to Christ.

In today’s society how are others to know the love of Christ if not set by example. It starts with yourself and your relationship with Jesus Christ who gave his life for you. If Jesus gave his life for you, why not give your life for him. Live for Him, and give to your family, friends and others (2 Cor. 5:15). One principle that really works and gives back to you tenfold is tithing and giving. Take it from me I’ve tried it and it works. When God inspires you to a thought or an idea it’s his calling on your life to bring glory to his name. There are other true believers that have that same God-given desire. We together are made One with the Savior who died for all (2 Cor. 5:14). With the idea of Thomas Edison he invented electricity that propelled us into the 20th century. Joseph, the son of Jacob, had a dream of greatness and saved his people from famine, their lives were changed because of one who saw God’s vision.

There are many ways one can make a difference in their community and other parts of the world. God-inspired believers begin at their local church by tithing and sending the donations to missions. Stewards are elected individuals who are entrusted in the management of the affairs of others and are in charge of available services in a particular area whenever help and assistance is needed. Talent and money are also big pluses in accomplishing the purpose for those in need. Creative skills and talents may be used in basket weaving, quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing blankets, tents, coats and other crafts that produced much needed items for the poor.

I have a love for cycling in sport, exercise, duty and fun and this one is right up my alley: Just recently cyclists from evangelical churches across Russia embarked on a 9,000-mile bike trek on May 13, 2007. During their long trek the bicycling evangelists planned to hold 117 evangelical events. Slavic Gospel Association assisted the expedition by helping to provide Bibles, books, and Russian language evangelistic literature. If you like to known more about evangelizing Russia just log on to www.sga.org. If you have a sport or activity you love and think you have an idea where you can use it. Call your local church missions organization that are involved in world evangelism and get others to get together as a group and start a ministry of your own. This is a great way to be a testimony of your faith for the lost and those hungry for the gospel.

Another ministry called Love Packages aims at putting Christian literature and Bibles into the hands of people around the world. In August of 2007 they held their first nationwide “Bible Drive” in the U.S.A. Their vision to for America’s entire excess of Christian materials place in the mission fields around the world. Learning a language is essential and looks good on a resume and can open up communication to the needs of others and those who give sympathy and comfort to the afflicted. Reaching out to other cultures that suffer impoverished conditions shows the compassion of God and his only begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ. It’s the way to extend the Gospel to those in need of supplies and need of a loving, caring Savior. Call upon the Lord and be saved (Rom. 10:13).
