In the past history, there have been many references and recordings of vampires.  However, reciently (past 1 or 2 hundred years) there has been far less/few.  Why is this? Personally i do believe that vampires DID exist, but I'm  not so sure if any remain.  The description of vampires and their actions/lives seems to vary quite a lot.  Surely this isnt because vampires 'evolve'?

Finally, if you are a vampire, surely you wouldnt come forth..?
Slanesh

I'd say that a decrease in the 'known' vampires is due to several reasons. First, things like vampirism are just not believed in anymore and most likely scorned and disregarded as all fiction. Secondly, modern society demands that we all interact continuously with others and it's hard to have a 'normal' life when people find out (whether or not they believe you.) Third, is that there is an accountability for actions now adays. The police and laws and society as a whole demand that we all play nice. A few hundred years ago, no one really faced justice or feared retribution.

Every species must grow and adapt. Every species must learn to change with the times or they will not survive. Why not of vampires?

As for coming out into the open? Well, when I first began the site, there was little to no content that was factual. Started out more hinting at thing realities, but smothered in common fiction surroundings (and, actually, the original fictional vampire pictures still adorn the site) It was comfortable to kinda hide. But, as the site's popularity grew, and as I found more people willing to discuss these things, the more I realized that I too could revel this information. It was not very popular with others-to this day, I occasionally receive a threat to shut up-but I wanted to halt the repitition of the myths. I don't give out my personal details and I try to keep the conversations on topic and as such have grown to be mostly comfortable discussing this aspect of my life. It took awhile, but I came to realize that it's not a bad thing in anyway and I wanted to help others see that as well.
