Hi Lori- If your family likes vegetable soup type - try these: (I always precook my ground beef with onion salt & pepper & freeze in freezer bags as to amount we usually use for a meal) * Browned seasoned & rinsed hamburger. Bag of Schwans' (or other store brand) stew vegetables 1-2 cans stewed tomatoes (I chop briefly in blender.) 2 beef bouillion cubes. Cover & cook on low til veg's are tender--at least 2-3 hours (If not cooked enough when I first get home, I turn on high for a while.)
Very similar but using own veg's:
Sliced carrots, celery & potatoes- enough for 2 layers. Layer potatoes, celery, carrots with h alf can of peas (save & set aside juice). Season with salt & pepper to taste (can also use seasoned salt). Repeat layer. Use 1/2 of juice. Layer precooked (don't have to but I always do to eliminate fat and to have gb crumbly) hamburger (i use 1-2 pounds). Can use 1 can tomato soup spread over top adding remaining juice from peas.... We prefer the stewed (& chopped in blender of course) tomatoes spread over top with juice from peas.
Cook on low 3-4 hours? (potatoes and carrots need to be tender) I have been known to throw potatoes & carrots in microwave to slightly cook & speed up process...this also works in oven.
For a chicken crock: Can use chicken (I use breasts) with can of broth (or water & bouillion cubes) your seasonings (to chicken I always like a bit of sage & parsely too) and bag of vegetables also. This would be similar to Kim's I think.
