Of Longing

A PASSAGE IN TIME

Oh to be able to return
To a time
Of simplicity
Of days gone by
Only now in a dream
In a vision that accompanies
Our slumber
So real
So vivid
Only to be whisked away
When the eyes open
The dream ends
When the sleep is taken from us
But, alas, the thoughts remain
Burning brightly
In our minds
A path to the days gone by
A road map to a simpler time
A passage in time
Forever emblazoned in our memories

Asleep there are no tears

Did you ever cry so much
Your eyes begin to hurt
Your mind loses control over your thoughts
You feel a pain deep within your head
It grows stronger
With each new tear that forms
In the corner of your eye
There seems to be no end
To the stabbing pain
To the throbbing
In the center of your mind
The center of your soul
The only relief is sleep
Deep and dark
The sleep of despair
The sleep of the lonely
There is peace here
My cries wane
My tears dry
Alone I sleep

At Peace

I search.
I seek.
Alas to no avail.
Will my heart ne'er solace find?
Solace, peace, happiness in kind?
'Tis not to be with this my heart.
From this body with my soul doth part.
In life I am lost.
My senses grow weak.
To regain my heart, my soul,
The goal I seek
Alas my soul, my heart are gone.
No more I wish to carry on.
With my last moment.
My last breath.
I find peace, my heart solace,
In death.

Awaken I will not

Tired, sleepy eyes slowly closing
Scattered visions in my mind stirring
What ventures await me this night
What lives will I visit in my sleep
Who will I be in my sleep
Where will my dreams take me
This night, as my eyes catch
The last fleeting moments
Of my bedroom
Of my life
Of reality
When I awaken
What will I remember
What tales will I have to tell
Of the nights adventures
Will I awaken with fear, laughter, happiness or tears
As I slowly drift off into unconciousness
My mind will flare with the brilliance of a thousand candles
My dreams will now be my reality this night
Perhaps when the time comes, awaken I will not

Love's Fleeting Moments

Here for a minute
Then gone
For an hour, a day...a lifetime
Love comes but once
True love
Knocks at the door to your heart
If you fail to answer
You will never know true love
If by chance you should hear
That knock that only comes once
True love will be yours
Forever more
You will never know life, without love
I await that fateful knock at my door
At the door to my heart
Will I answer, or cower in fear
Will I hide and pretend not to hear
Am I ready to know true love
Am I prepared to have true love in my life

My Tears

The tears well up in my eyes
Soon there is no stopping them
They begin to fall
First upon my face
Then from there
To the floor at my feet
As they fall there is no sound
That is until they reach the ground
Then with a nary a sound
They puddle at my feet
But the sound I hear
Is deafening
The sound rings in my ears
Shaking my mind
Quaking my soul
Till I hear only my tears
I hear nothing else
My mind is filled with only the sound of my tears
I know of no way to quell the clamor
To quiet the storm

Serenity

It's paradoxical
That when
You are paitient
With others
When you have stopped
Insisting and forcing
The very thing
You are hoping for
The very thing
You have been trying
To accomplish
Can happen

The Color of Snow

The snow falls gently
Pure and white
Changing in color
As the morning sun
Cracks the sky
Deepest purple
Fiery red
Blazing orange
Brilliant yellow
Then as the sun
Is highest in the sky
All is white
As far as can be seen
As the sun leaves for night
All the colors return
To the snow
Yellow, orange, red, purple
Gone is the white

The Mist

A cool morning. A mist stretches from near to far..a fog
I ponder what the day will bring my way
Early. Walking with my little Beagle companion
I walk through the mist, it is cool to the touch
Yet, the more I walk, the warmer I become
The cool mist offers no relief to the fire inside
My little companion shows no sign of tiring, yet
The fire in me is slowly sapping my strength
My will to continue wanes
What I desire is to simply lay myself down
On the grass, in the mist. Lying down to cool myself
Attempting to quench the fire inside
Alas to no avail, it burns brighter, stronger, hotter!
It consumes me. I am no more lying on the grass
In the mist. I am now a mere wisp of smoke
Trailing off into the morning air
I too will soon disappear. With the cool morning mist
As the sun peers over the horizon
And begins to warm the earth another day
The mist and what is left of me, will simply.....go away

The Rain of Life

The rain pours from above
A downpour, driving all in its way to the ground
Nothing can withstand the pounding
The thrashing of wind and rain together
All is beaten down
A lost and lonely night this is
Though it is rain, rain is water and water is life
Without the new life that water brings
There would be nothing, only death and darkness
When I hear the rain beating upon my door, my windows and my roof
I no longer think of the destruction it may bring
I look rather to the beauty the following morn brings
With the water of life feeding all about me
My day is made beautiful by the storms of the evening past
You and I now have many storms to weather
Yet when the morn finally comes
The water of life from all those storms will make beautiful
Our new life together!
I will await the dawn with you
I know it will come and then our new life will... be

The Sunrise This Morn

The sunrise this morn
Hues of red trimmed in gold
Far off in the distance
I watch a new day unfold
The briliance of the morning sun
Much to nightfalls disdain
Bathes my world with color
And warms us with its fiery mane
Such that it is this gift of colors
From GOD a gift to enjoy and share
So many will let it go by unoticed
Rushing the day with out a care
Drive here, run there, not a moments peace
No time to breathe or relax with a sigh
To many, the colors are just another day
So many sights to treasure, merely slip by

The Way

The road winds about
Here and there
Like a ribbon forever it goes
Perhaps a ribbon gently laid
Upon the ground
Allowed to fall where it may
With twists and turns
Heaves and swallows
Peaks and valleys
With no vision of where
This road may lead
I am unsure of my destination
If by chance along the way
A fork in the road appears, a crossroads
Will I know which way to go
What will guide me along my way
I must look deep into my soul, my heart
For the answer to my question -where-
God be my light in my heart, my soul
Let me not wander, lost and alone

TO KNOW ME

To know me is to never forget me.
To truly know me is to never want to forget me.
To have the knowledge of my existance
Trapped not only in your mind
But within the fibers of your soul
Your heart,
Your very life
I am deep within you
Touching all there is of you
Every feeling you have, I give you
Every sensation is from my touch
Every vision I put before your eyes
Every thought I place in your mind
Knowing me is to live with love
Loving me is to die with ecstacy
In my arms
I will never give you reason
To wish to leave me
As a memory
Scarred upon your minds landscape
Rather I would wish
I could leave you with
A new brushstroke
Upon the canvas
Of your life
Perhaps not a new color each stroke
But definitely a new pattern
A new intensity
To each stroke
A new memory of me
That you will one day
Truly say
You know me
And will ne'er forget me

In Time

A concept
A thought
A plan
A desire
Will I be there in time
To complete my task
To finish my work
To meet with my friends
To relax and enjoy myself
What if I am late
Will I be rushed
Will I be hurried
Will my schedule suffer
Will my day be ruined
Should I let this be
Is being late enough to curse the day
Is being late really that bad
Is being late reason to suffer
Is being late such an evil
That I'll always be there in plenty of time

This Day

Hello to you!
My inner self
How are you today?
What adventures await you?
What events will fill your day?
Will it be a peaceful day?
A day of rest and quiet solitude
Will it be a day frought with unrest?
Will it be distressed?
Only time will tell
Whether or not
My innerself will rest easy
At days end
Or if it will be wrought with pain
With a desire to forget this day
Ever happened, ever took place
It is my choosing, my destiny I make
How this day begins, how it ends
This day, the present... A gift from GOD
Is totally within my hands

The Hospital Room

Walls of white
Ceiling so bright
Basking in light
Something's not right

There's no one here
It's rather queer
No one to hear
My cries of fear

The door is now closed
The drapes and blinds drawn
I am here in this room
All alone until dawn

The lights go out
And with a thunderous shout
The room goes black
There's no turning back

Noises in the night
Fill my soul with fright
Fear sings its woeful song
And I tremble the whole night long

The night's movements are slow
Into the dark my heart sinks low
Fear and desperation within me grow
How long this goes on I do not know

Deeper and deeper into the depths
I descend the dark sides' ne'er ending clefts
To where lost hopes and dreams have eternally slept
To where the seeds of my fears have crept

There I lie awaiting the morn'
When the light of a new day is suddenly born
The brilliance of day tells night to take warn
The blackness of night is shredded and torn

Light fills the room
And like a powerful tide
The light basks o'er everything
Nothing can hide

I find it odd though
My fears do not quell
They race through my mind
With a clamorous knell

The walls are again white
The ceiling once more is bright
Everything basks in the light
Still, something is not right

Each Trip Home

The sun goes down
On yet another day
Of my brief time away
From the busy world
I live in each day
Here, in quiet solitude
In constant communication
WIth nature
With friends
With my inner self
I treasure these moments
So much happens each visit
Each trip home
I leave a small piece of existence
My soul, my self
On this ground
In this place
In the air
In the trees
Amazing it is
I know one day
I will leave all of me
Here
I will rest
Eternally

The weekend mural

The weekend slowly fades
Into a memory
Painted on the canvas of my mind
Rich with colors
Vibrant with life
Though now the colors begin to fade
Quietly into darkness
As I close my eyes this night
I know
In my heart
My mind
My soul
This weekend, though over it is
Will live on forever
In my mind
My time here, though short it is
These journeys so brief
Yet, the time spent this weekend
With friends
Measured in days, hours or even minutes
Cannot begin to measure
The breadth and depth
Of the memories
On the mural
On the canvas of my mind

I Love the Snow!

I love the snow!
Especially at night
With the moonlight  and the glow of streetlights
Illuminating the snowscapes with a ghostly hue....
Amazing that something as simple as snow
Can take on such a wonderful beauty
When it falls and lays upon the various shapes of the terrain,
Be those shapes man-made or natural
Oh and then to be blown into even more beautiful shapes
As the little flakes are tussled and tossed about
In the strong winter breezes!
Mmmmm.
Like a fairytale land!
So pleasing to behold!
Serendipitous to the eyes......
The mind.......
Aaahhhhhh!
Ever changing
Like the landscapes
Of our dreams
When we sleep
Close your eyes
For but a moment
And the world around you
Has changed
Blown about by the winds of change
Not unlike the random shapes
Of clouds in the sky,
The snow is pushed about by the wind......
Long flat plains like cirrus clouds,
Tall skyscraping mountains of drifting snow
Not unlike cumulus clouds!
Alas, then finally the blowing snow itself
Creating a difficult to see through
Wall of white
Not unlike the stratus clouds
That line the outer atmosphere.
Mmmmmmm!
I love the snow!

Shapes in the Snow

I think of the likeness
Of the blowing snow
To the feminine form...

The rises and falls,
Peaks and valleys,
Swells and swallows...

The curved shapes
Created in the snow
By the howling winds
Not unlike the curved form
Of a lovely lass
As shaped
By the breath of GOD...

Mmmm, I could go on,
Yes,
I could go on...
Forever....

A Friend

And what is a friend
But someone who,
After everyone else.....
Has changed
Has grown away from you
Has gone away from you
Has left you behind
Has died
Has married
Has remarried
Has forgotten you
Has broken your heart
Had their heart broken by you
Has broken your trust
Has lost trust in you
Has hurt you
Has been hurt by you
Has kept your secrets
Has secrets kept from them
Has taken all they can take from you
Has swallowed their pride
Has turned feelings inside
Has simply had enough of it all.....
Chooses to remain by your side,
With their hand holding yours
Helping you stand against the winds of life
That would most definitely fell anyone
Who has no friend
By their side
I will be that friend
Will you be mine?

Another day

Another day
Too soon they go by
Another day
Without a hello, or goodbye
Another day
Just seems to slip away
Another day
Memories begin to fray
Another day
Suddenly there's no more
Another day
Nothing to wait for
Another day
Life has all gone away
Another day
All has gone astray
Another day
There is no more to do
Another day
No one waiting for you
Another day
No one to help you live
Another day
No one has anything to give
Another day
No one there to see you go
Another day
Nothing left to show
Another day
That you were even here
Another day
Nothing left, I fear
Another day
No more a memory
Another day
No one to care for me
Another day
So now I leave this place
Another day
With so many tears on my face
Another day
And no one sees me cry
Another day
And no one watches me die
Another day
I die every day
Another day
Since you went away
Another day
Is there no end to this
Another day
No, not since that last kiss,  Another day

Dewdrops
Upon the petals of a rose
Glisten in the morning sunlight

At night........
Dewdrops
Gather on the leaves
I in turn gather this nectar of a new day
I am parched
The night was long and hot
And I thirst
For the water of life
The nectar of the misty morn
The dew drops...
That have gathered

Would that one day come that we should meet
That our eyes shoould become fixed upon each other
Across a room
Across the street
Across a lake
I would look deep into the eyes I trust so
And come to know so much more
About who it is that resides behind those smiling eyes.
Who it is that has captured my thoughts.
Who it is that holds the key to the mystery of
Who this woman is
Who I wish to spend
The rest of my life with

MEMORIES OF THE CARBON LAB

Dark
Dank
Dismal
Dirty
Decrepit
Depressing
Deteriorating
Distressed
Clumps of Carbon On Dirty Desktops
Light
It is there
The switch is on
But still dim
Far too much green
To much to be seen
Strange how I am
Somewhat happy to see
The dirt collected
On the walls
The doors
The floor
To cover some of the green
Oh how long it has been
Since we both walked away
Not looking back since the day
The door closed behind I, then you
We both found more to do
Something interesting and new
But alas, apart too
But the images and thoughts
Of days gone by
When we were forever cleaning
God, our skin was so dry
Those days were good
Though the past they now be
Those days were fun
You working all night with me
Or perhaps it was the day shift
Or even the afternoon
On the way home
The way lighted by the moon
The days and nights in that lab
Were hard to leave behind
The memories of it all
Still flicker time to time
If I could do it all again
Would I take the same part
Aye, yes my friend I would do so
You are still in my heart

Nightfall is but a breath away
Oh to feel the sweetness of the nightfall air
As it touches our skin
The dampness cools the fire
Burning within
Come my love
Sit with me in the garden
Feel the nightfall air about you
Take it into you
Take that breath with me
Let us fill our lungs
With the sweetness of the nightfall air
In unison our chests rise, expand, fill
Day is done
The nightfall air is but a breath away
Together we breathe

All is without color
No movement is noticed
No motion detected
Life goes on unseen
We wonder, "Why is it this way?"
Suddenly--
A light!
A bright, clean light!
No more dark!
Colorful Surroundings!
We see all movement
All motion detected
We see our lives
We see ourselves
We wish it were dark again.

NOT AT ALL

Step by step
In faith
The rocky climb
And then, at length the Summit!
Exhilaration, yes!
But yet much, much more
In utter cloudlessness
How clear the view
From here big objects
Seem so small
And the little things,
Are not at all
Even so,
Upon GOD's mountain peak
Of a steep and rocky
Life experience
The rugged climb, at length achieved!
Exhilaration, yes!
But yet much, much more
Here where earthly vision clears
A new perspective soon appears
From here big problems
Seem so small
And the little ones
Are not at all!!

I touch the keys
The words appear
Before my eyes
With one last keystroke
Those words are on their way
To you
At the speed of lightning
You make one keystroke
And my words
Are before you
Do you see
All I have written
The feelings
The love
The soul searching
The feelings of being alone
In a world moving too fast
Everything changing
Around me
I cannot grasp it all
So much escapes me
Lost and alone
Some more keystrokes
Some more thoughts
Appear before me
And then before you
Are my words touching you
Are my thoughts becoming yours
Touching the keys again
Wanting to touch you
Knowing I cannot
Wondering why
Missing your touch
Not knowing when
We can Be again
Pain and sorrow
Flow from my fingers
To the keys
With each keystroke
And with one final keystroke
It is all gone from my view
From your next keystroke
It is all before you
Do you hear my thoughts
Do you hear my cries
Do you hear me

A NEW DAY?

Is it really a new day
What has changed
Only time, nothing else
Life has stopped
Time moves on
Yet I live no more
I feel no more love this day
Than I felt yesterday
My heart is just as empty
As it was 24 hours ago
The tears I weep now
Are nothing more than
A continuation of those
I've wept for weeks
Months
Years gone by
An endless supply of tears
An endless supply of time
Both with me forever
Time and tears flow
Through my life
Yet nothing changes
Everything remains the same
The pain of heartache
Continues never-ending
The empty feelings persist
A loveless existence maintained
Alone, I go on
Into a new day
Is it really a new day?

In fact it made them glad

There are no words to thank you

If can ask a question....What if?........
If can make a statement.....If I.........
If can connect two thoughts...we could do this if we do that...
If can begin a dream........"If only I could............"
If can be used so many ways
If only I could be with you now.
If only I had you in my arms right now
If we were together this very moment
If we could spend this and every night together
If "us" could be this day
If you and I could go "our" way
If "we" were able to say
If the time for us is today
If you and I may
In some special way
Make the distance go away
That we could spend every day
Together come what may
If only we could
If only

The Sounds of the Storm

Tis a cool and wet day
Alas, for the night
Was filled with storms
And the heavens did weep
With each thunderous clap
Of the battling angels.
Be not afraid of the sounds though
For this is how mother nature
Replenishes herself
And refreshes the dry earths scalp.
Alas, though it makes
For some
A dreaded night,
But for me,
A night of wonderment
With the visions of the angels
Alighting the midnight sky.
I, for one,
Love with thunder
The lightning
The rain
And the winds that howl.
For me
It is the sound of life
And it can also be
The sounds of love.
The thunderous claps...
the sounds of two bodies
Joining as one.
The lightning......
The sparks of electricity
Between lovers.
The rain,
The sweat of lovers
Writhing
In a tumultuous
Lovers dance.
The howling winds.......
The voices of lovers
Entwined
And in the throws of ecstacy.....
Need I go on?
Nay, tis not necessary
But I tell you,
Just heed the sounds
Of the storm,
Of love.
Perchance,
They may be calling out,
To you

A Winter Surprise!

What a surprise to drive through the dark early morn with the headlights on  only to have their brilliance reflected back to my unwary eyes by the multitude  of snowflakes filling the air in a fitful flurry!  My goodness how they flitted about like so many moths gathering towards a flame.  It made it difficult to see the road before me!  High beams low beams alas to no avail. The only solution, drive a lil’ bit slower than normal and keep your wits about you!

Aaahhh!  The beginning of the Winter season!  How bittersweet.  Alas, to know the warmth of summer is not to be for lo so many months, yet the brilliance of the new fallen snow is beckoning me to welcome winter with grand applause!  Allay, Alluh!  Blow wind blow and drive the billowing snow hither and thither at your will!  Cover the lowland, the highland, the mountains and valleys in your wintry' white blanket!  Clothe the now barren leaf trees and the mighty pines in your cloak of white!  Yes, your blanket, your cloak will comfort the earth and ready it for Spring!

Yes, I will miss the summer to some extent.  Yes, I will miss the Fall with its rich colors and cool rains driving me into my home, to my fireplace for warmth.  Yea, I will look forward the Spring and the melting of Winters sting.  Yes! Yes!  Yes!  All is not lost though, as I have the Winter to revel in for the next few months!  I will play in the snow!  I will breathe in the cold, crisp air!  I will watch as nature covers herself in a blanket of white to ready herself for her coming out in the Spring!

Yea, that I should not take in each season for its best attributes lest I lose sight of what it truly is to live where one is exposed to all four seasons!  Imagine a Spring without a Winter?  A Summer without a Spring, A Fall without a Summer?  Or at the very least, a Winter, without a Fall!  Here in Western Pennsylvania, we are privy to it all!

Alas, we can look with jaded eyes as Winter approaches us or we can trade those jaded eyes for some rose colored glasses and enjoy what nature has tossed our way!  For me, I will  enjoy, revel if you will, in the slow mutating of Fall to Winter and I will  enjoy all of the Winter I can whilst I wait for the coming of Spring!

The Symphony in the Silence

The quiet solitude broken
By the waves crashing on the shore
A symphony in the silence
A harmonious, never ending chord

My mind is filled with visions
Of surf beating upon the sand
My eyes closed yet I see
The musicians of natures band

As far as one can hear
Up and down the empty shores
Nature plays on and on
Her captivating musical scores

The calm forever broken
By her unrelenting rhythm
I listen to her singing
The words of a voiceless hymn

No words ever spoken
No sound a man can make
Can e’er replace the beauty
Of the resonance of natures wake

I listen, oh how I listen
To the story being told
Of how the surf and sand are one
The story now unfolds

The magnificent life within the water
Meets the finite mortality of the sand
And for a brief moment there is fluidity
There where the water meets the land

The sand and water mingle
In an erotic lovers dance
Yet then the water leaves the sand
And it comes to a halting stance

But… the shape of the surf
Has forever been changed
That short intimate dance
Has left the sand re-arranged

No longer is the sand fluid
Its life passed away
But only for a brief moment
Another wave comes this way

Such is the life within us all
For moments on end we are quick
No one dares to make a move
Our bodies cold and thick

But at a moments notice
A silent symphony breaks out
Someone touches our lifeless form
As the crashing waves do shout

We move for a moment
The water shaping our beings
Then suddenly as quick as it began
It comes to an immediate end

The silent symphony continues
Awaiting the next verse
Once again we are still
An interminable curse

The waves crashing on the shore
The surf and the sand still dance
The sound of it all unceasing
This symphony in the silence
