A reminder, the FOR is an group composed of people from many faiths, and no specific faith-all coming together to support nonviolence and justice. We welcome any submissions, space permitting.

A Peoples' Campaign for Nonviolence
FOR and other organizations are sponsoring a People's Campaign for Nonviolence in Washington, DC for 40 days this summer..The campaign begins Saturday, July 1. 7:00 p.m.with"The People's Campaign for Nonviolence" Panel discussion at Howard University with Helen Caldicott, Mairead Maguire, Daniel Berrigan, Jim Lawson, Jonathan Schell, Arun Gandhi, Marian Wright Edelman and John Dear.  Various peace and social-justice groups have agreed to organize activities with a specific day throughout the campaign.  Among the groups: the American Friends Service Committee, Muslim Peace Fellowship, War Resisters League, Baptist Peace Fellowship, Catholic Workers, the Campaign to Ban Landmines, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and the Central Committee for Consientious Objectors.

One day for instance will focus on the struggle in Chiapas, another on Colombia, one on the Jubilee 2000 call to forgive "third world" debt, two days on Iraq, one on closing the School of the Americas, another on death penalty abolition.  Panel discusssions, leafletting, interfaith services, marches and nonviolent direct action will be among the various forms events will take throughout the campaign. For those of you without web access, you can call Nan at (573)447-0094 for contact names and phone numbers for the events and any updates to the schedule.  Please attend our upcoming meetings (7:00 p.m.,1st Thursday of each month, Newman Center) or call Jeff (449-4585) with your suggestions of which day(s) a Columbia MO delegation should go to join the campaign.
