Top Ten Puzzle Games

Slide and match the tiles in MIOC's Rune, a game that'll keep you up at night.

Every now and then you become hopelessly addicted to a game. For a lot of Pocket PC owners, games like Bubblet and the various Tetris clones fall into that category. For me, the game that eats up hours of my time is MIOC's Rune.

The game is really very simple. You're presented with a board full of multicolored tiles (or "runes"). You have one empty space on the board, and your goal is to slide various runes around to form trios of the same color. Once a trio is made (combinations of more than three are possible), the runes disappear from the board. As you progress through a round, certain runes become solid and will not move.

What makes the game especially tricky is that you get a certain number of "action points" for removing trios, but you lose points every time you move a rune. When you run out of action points, the game is over. However, you can play the game in "solitaire" mode, and points are not deducted for moving pieces. There is also a timed mode, where you extend the timer by making successful matches. The graphics and sound effects are decent, although not eye-popping. The one thing this games seems to lack is a high score table. Still, the game is a Still, the game is a blast and will keep you glued to your Pocket PC for hours at a time.
