Glossy Objects Tutorial

This section shows lists the steps to make an object look glossy by using any graphics program. Because it is the reflected light that shows glossiness, it is important to keep in mind the direction of the light source. Usually this will be a window or sun which are overhead. As little as three colors can show quite a bit of texturing, and it helps to choose a family of related colors.

1. Open a new file with the background set to white. Draw a circle in your darkest basic color.

2. Using an airbrush or soft brush tool, draw a smaller, lighter circle inside the original circle.

3. Using the same tool, add lighter colored highlights to your circle.

4. At this point you can smudge or blur if you need to to soften it, then add a bit of white.
