
VolnVoln is a society devoted to releasing undead, in return for which certain powers are granted to devotees. It is a long and difficult path for magic users. However, its rewards in the end are quite impressive. Voln is also a tight knit society, with the Voln thought net keeping everyone informed. The symbol of need and Voln fog in higher steps as well as the need to frequent the Voln Monastery also help to keep everyone together.
To join Voln, you must be invited by the old warrior in Wehingmer's or a Voln master. It is best to join Voln as young as you can at level three, for each step requires an increasing number of 'same level kills.' This starts out as 25 or so for the first few steps, and increases by 25 every three steps. You still get favor for releasing undead younger than your level, but it is a smaller amount.
Some symbols, such as Calm, are casting strength based. Sleep is based on your elemental casting strength, and Turning is based on your spirit casting strength. To determine these strengths, see the Calculations section of my Hunting With Magic Guide. Also note that certain symbols work only on undead, and throw, kick and punch cost no favor against undead.

1. Recognition - Tells you who in the room is in Voln, and who is a master.
2. Blessing - Allows you to bless any non-magic metal weapon you're holding.
3. Thought - Gives you access to the Voln thought net.
4. Recovery - Restores some health to you.
5. Courage - +1 per Voln step to AS. Increases protection against fear spells.
6. Protection - Adds to your defense.
7. Throw - Lets you throw a creature/player, brawling helps this.
8. Punch - Along the lines of throw, brawling helps this.
9. Kick - Self-explanatory, brawling helps this.
10. Calm - May calm every undead in the room.
11. Sleep - May sleep undead in the room.
12. Turning - Lets you turn undead away from the room.
13. Mana - Uses deeds to replenish your mana, it helps to kneel.
14. Sight - Allows you to look in on another Voln member.
15. Holiness - Allows you to bless a magic metal weapon you're holding.
16. Submission - Makes undead drop their guard.
17. Restoration - Restores more health to you.
18. Need - An emergency beacon that shows all members where you are.
19. Retribution - An e-wave kind of attack, hits all the undead in the room.
20. Throw 2 - More powerful version of Throw.
21. Punch 2 - More powerful version of Punch.
22. Kick 2 - More powerful version of Kick.
23. Preservation - Lets you life keep, yourself and others, even if you're dead.
24. Dreams - Lets you regain spirit through dreams.
25. Return - Usage brings you, and all joined to you, back to the Voln Courtyard or the nearest node. In some areas, such as on the moon and beyond Pookas under the crypt, it only returns you and not your group.
26. Invitation - Allows you to serve as a recruiter for Voln, like the old warrior.
