RULES FOR TITLES

A. Titles of books, magazines, newspapers, plays, movies, TV shows, and recorded albums
   1. Place in italics 
      (this phrase is in 
       italics) or 
      underline them 
      (this phrase is 
       underlined).

a. Use italics whenever you can, such as when using a word processor.
b. Use underlining when you can't use italics, such as when handwriting or using a typewriter.

2. Capitalize the first word.

3. Capitalize the last word.

4. Capitalize all other important words
a. Nouns
b. Pronouns
c. Verbs
d. Adjectives (except a, an,and the).
e. Adverbs
f. Interjections

5. Do not capitalize the articles (a, an, and the)

6. Do not capitalize most conjunctions (like and, but and or)

7. Do not capitalize short prepositions

Examples:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown

The Atlantic Monthly

Globe and Mail

Shrek

The Fairly Odd Parents

B. Titles of short stories, poems, articles in a magazine or newspaper, and songs
   1. Place in quotation 
      marks.


2. Follow the same capitalization rules as for longer works (see above).

Examples:

"The Pudding Like a Night on the Sea"

"The Walrus and the Carpenter"

"MSU, U-M Win Big"

"It's a Hard Knock Life"
