In order to share something, a child has to own it first. If sharing is forced chidlren learn that you can make people do things if you're bigger, they don't really learn sharing. If friends are coming over to play or siblings are involved, work with the child to choose a few special toys that are just for them (only to be shared if they want to) and the rest are toys for everyone. After a while you will be surprised that they will share even their special toys after they have been able to feel safe in 'owning' them. Also, don't expect real sharing until age 3 or 4.
