At this fateful moment in our world history, Mars goes direct, yes: But the question remains: In which direction?

As an Intermediary Planet -- neither most- nor least-aspected -- the energy of Mars is thought to be primarily neutral. So, from a Transcendental Astrology perspective, Mars may either choose to energize the Primary and other Transcendental Planets -- the least-aspected planets, which form the spiritual raison d'être of this moment -- or else, Mars may shift its focal point to the most-aspected, or Leading Planets. In the latter case, the next question is: Will the Leading Planets follow the Primary Directive -- are they working in the service of the Primary Transcendental powers, here symbolized by Uranus and Neptune? Or will these most-aspected or Leading Planets attempt to behave as free-agents, split-off from the rest of the collective psyche, acting in a manner indicative of 'hubris': of 'god-likeness'?

Both LAPs and MAPs are in air signs: a thinking / intellectualized approach is certainly "in the air" at this moment. MAPs in air, however, may indicate an over-intellectualization of some sort; one which ignores the "common sense" of the feeling realm, of what is emotionally appropriate.

LAP UR and NE symbolize a new approach to victims and victimization -- indeed, this was the theme that crystallized at the beginning of the 1990s, with the historic UR NE conjunction: witness the plethora of day time talk-shows which would follow, encouraging all and sundry to "get in touch with our inner victim" -- and express it in new, innovative, and socially condoned fashions! Here, though, Primary Transcendental UR and NE tenant the 12th and 11th Transcendental Houses, respectively. NE in the Transcendental 11th possibly reflects a moment of broad-based social-collective idealism; victimization -- or both. This may also symbolize a dissolution of some "notion" (air) of the international societal gestalt. NE also rules the Yin-oriented global zeitgeist -- the anima mundi or world soul. How the international community comes to terms with 'need' on a large-scale trans-societal basis is the question here.

With Primary Transcendental UR in the Transcendental 12th, innovative yet intellectually (air) oriented solutions play a part. New thinking is brewing in the core, in the depths, of the trans-societal imagination. Again, the traditional assignment of victimization to the 12th -- the house where we lose our protective ego-borders and may in some manner be crucified as a result of this dissolution -- is again emphasized. The Transcendental nature of Uranus in this horoscope however indicates that an urge to find a new solution; a reformation; or a dynamic reversal of existing conditions is paramount. In other words, the Transcendental or least-aspected nature of the planet, which allows it to work in an almost pure and untouched (by other planetary factors) manner may emphasize its more highly evolved or 'positive' aspect.

From a Transcendental perspective, the problem with this chart resides in the dual tenanting of the 11th House: the 11th is here also the Leading House, as Leading Moon, the most-aspected planet, is placed there, beside Transcendental NE. This (MAP Moon) describes an emotional hubris: an overly-emotive response which is perhaps over-intellectualized (air) and thus 'legitimized': an impulsive action is said to be okay because it is "needed." The Leading Moon almost always indicates the "smothering mother." She kills by overdoing it: she kills the child by giving him too much of something. The ego of the mother is projected into that of the child: It is the mother's own needs, not the child's, which are at issue here.

Combined with MAP Sun, this MAP MO-SU planetary portrait most certainly involves an "infantile and sentimental / nationalism" (Leading Moon / Secondary Leader, Sun); one which, again, may rely too much upon intellectual excuses (due to the air sign involved here). It reflects a perceived need to regress; to turn the clock back; and to overly-focus on material security; the 'homeland'; the sense that the base emotive needs and egoistic drives will accomplish anything and excuse anything. These two planets, in hyperactivity, reflect the most basic tendencies of selfishness; egoism; personal and primitive needs; and imprisonment of the larger psyche by the illusion of "self" as equivalent to "me." They also reflect, especially through the MAP MO dynamism, the unreflective, and habitual thinking inherited from the mother: the amorphous "homeland" or "motherland." The unreflective son (MAP SU) will do anything to avoid the loss of this tie; this youthful yet un-evolved ego-mother bond.

The key here is to recognize the spiritual raison d'être of the moment, symbolized by the Primary Transcendentals, UR and NE, and to, secondly, place the most-aspected or Leading Planets in their service. The symbolism of the Primary Planets here calls for a need to find "new solutions / to mass movements that involve loss of identity; victimization; and loss of borders" (Primary Uranus / Primary Neptune). Primary Neptune in the most positive sense may reflect a mass feeling of idealism; empathy; global compassion; and the attempt to heal through love. Leading Moon will only avoid its hubristic and overextended, split-off tendency if it is working in the service of the Primary Transcendentals; and this is the definition of the "Primary Directive": to have the Leading Planets working in service of the spiritual raison d'être, here symbolized by NE and UR. Thus Moon and Sun must offer new "material and emotional security / as well as a sense of national identity" (MO / SU) to the misplaced, marginalized, and victimized masses.
