Source: "Singapore became a self-governing state on 3 June 1959, although still a part of the British Empire. Independence originally came by default due to the delay in the creation of the Federation of Malaysia, which was scheduled to come into existence at 00.00 hrs. on 31 August 1963, and Singapore was due to be transferred from British to Malaysian sovereignty at that moment. As the formation of Malaysia was postponed until 00.00 hrs. on 16 September 1963, Singapore became independent at 00.00 hrs. and enjoyed sixteen days as an independent state ...

"Considerable confusion surrounds the timing of Singapore's secession from Malaysia on 9 August 1965 [...] Western reports that the independence of Singapore took place at 00.01 hrs. were inaccurate, as there was no legal or public transfer of  power at this time. There may have been a de facto transfer of a sort as the secession agreement instructed all Malaysian officials in Singapore to transfer their allegiance to the Singapore government as from 9 August, suggesting de facto independence from 00.00 hrs. [...]

"The Singapore National Library confirmed that Lee Kwan Yew proclaimed Singapore independence on the steps of City Hall at 10.00 am. Clearly 10.00 a.m. saw a de facto proclamation of independence ... The Prime Minister ... opened parliamentary proceedings in Kualur Lumpur at about 10.00 a.m., and ... they were concluded between 4.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m., most likely between 4.15 and 4.20 p.m. 'Simultaneously with the passing of the Bill by both Houses of Parliament, Singapore became independent.'" Campion, "Book of World Horoscopes," pp. 332-333.

Commentary: Singapore's international reputation for "extreme disciplinarianism; worship of rules and regulations to the point that the populace serves the law rather than the law working to serve the citizen; and the manner in which government and institutions are prone to regard people as if they were children in need of excessive punishment, restraint" (Tertiary Leader, Saturn); and "behavior modification" (Tertiary Leader, Saturn / Leading Pluto) -- all these qualities are aptly reflected in the symbolism of Singapore's Leading or most-aspected planets (MAPs): Tertiary Saturn, and most-aspected or Leading Pluto.  Indeed, MAPs are indicative of such "over the top," hubristic approaches to whatever planetary energies are involved; in this case, they manifest through negative Saturn-Pluto notions of order, severity, and social-collective rigidity and deep-political control. When such forces of control are clearly out of control, we can eventually expect a dynamic reversal to occur. At some time in the future, a more balanced and organic sense of rule will surely grow within this nation, rather than one which, instead of evolving organically from within the society, is falsely imposed upon it, 'from the 'hubristic'- top, down', as it were.

On the other hand, the ease with which total strangers may approach and communicate with one another on the streets at any time of day or night -- a quality not unnoticed by tourists who are often enchanted by the unusual openness of this place -- aptly reflects the LAP, or Least-aspected Planet, of Singapore: Primary Transcendental Mercury. Last, but certainly not least, "commercial interests and developments" (Primary Mercury - ruler of commerce) of all types play a major role in the primary values fostered within this country, which has seen more than its share of great economic success. Known for its highly developed economy, Singapore has traditionally had very low unemployment, and has maintained one of the highest per capita income levels in Asia. It is also a major manufacturing and financial center, hosting many banks, insurance and financial companies, and a stock exchange; and producing, among numerous other products, quality "transportation equipment" (Mercury).
