ABOUT GOLDENS

TOP 10 REASONS

to obedience train your Golden

With their typically sweet dispositions and willingness to please, Golden Retrievers have certainly earned their place as America's canine sweethearts. Like any breed, though, an untrained Golden can be as much a bane as its trained counterpart is a boon. In case you've ever wondered why you should invest the time and energy to train your already easygoing pooch, we've compiled a list of obedience training benefits based on comments from Golden owners around the country.

10. Daily walks with your obedient ward will make you the envy of the neighborhood.

9.   A trained Golden may actually let you go to the bathroom in private (OR NOT)

8.   You may be able to drive down the street without a 65-pound dog in your lap.

7.   When you say playtime is over, it may actually mean something. Translation: You may only get a drool-covered ball dropped in your lap one last time instead of dozens.

6.   Everybody in the neighborhood will want a dog just like yours.

5.   You may get to read the morning paper again sans teeth marks.

4.   An obedient Golden will learn to accept regular grooming as a necessary evil. (Sorry, it won't make those sad eyes go away.)

3.   Neighborhood kids will be knocking down your door when it's time to finda a housesitter.

2.   The love you share will only grow as you establish a relationship based on trust and consistancy.

1.   That typical "I adore you" Golden look will transform into absolute hero worship.

Stories about our Goldens

I must first tell you that I have been showing Morgan himself in the mirror from day one.

Last night April 15, 2000, I was trying on a new dress. I moved the mirror into the kitchen for better lighting. I walked about 4 feet away and looked back,

There was Morgan, looking in the mirror, growling, I poked Rich and we watched, his HAIR WAS UP ON HIS BACK LIKE YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE, he was not too sure about this dog in the kitchen, then for some reason, Harry made a kinda bark sound (probably because he heard Morgan growling), well, you should have seen Morgan jump back, now that dog in the Mirror is barking at him, Rich went over and tried to show him it was him, he is sniffing and looking all over the place. Finally he laid down and watched himself, then he was trying to play, hitting the mirror with his paw, eventually, he gave up. Who knows, maybe today we will bring that other puppy back out, maybe this time in the livingroom...... I never laughed so hard.
