Why do you do pirate radio?
Most people do it for a hobby, but there are a few operators
who do it as part of a cause to legalise free radio.
Where
do you broadcast from?
Most pirates won't tell you anything about this, but an FM
pirate can transmit from practically anywhere, wheras a Medium
Wave pirate station needs a much larger antenna .
What
sort of power do you use?
Again, we never give any details of what power we use,
but most FM pirates would probably use between 1 and 50 W. This
is often subject to exaggeration, guesswork and total bull crap !
Who
builds the transmitters?
There are several sources for kits etc. (see our links page).
Some people with the relevant knowledge build their own bu when
it comes to doing stereo, things can become much more complex.
Why
aren't you on more often?
Most people do it as a hobby and just switch on as a sort of
an ego trip when it takes their fancy, also their is usually a
clique of people who occasionally fall out from time to time.
Why don't all the pirates get together and do one big
station?
(See 'Why aren't you on more often?')
Are
free radio web sites illegal?
Probably, but there are much worse things being promoted on
the internet from organizations who are claiming rights to free
speech.
There is an organization called the Blue Ribbon campaign which
anybody can join and some free radio sites display their logo.
I would not support that particular organization because of
some of the organizations they support who should never have any
right to free speech.
Free radio doesn't harm anyone and doesn't pose any threat to
licensed stations.
