I was born in Lodi, Ohio, on February 21, 1949. The period from my birth until I was 3 years old are "clouded in mystery", but my birth certificate lists my father as William Harold Fisher, and my mother as Estella Martha Webber. Don't know what happened, but my mother eventually ended up with my step-father, Elwood Melvin Colledge. He is the only father I ever knew. I never regretted my youth, or worried much about who my father was.

I've reached the age where I prefer to be called Dan Fisher these days. I retired from the Army in May 1990, with a little more than 20 years of active duty. I retired from an assigment with the 1st Cavalry Division, ACofS, G4 office, where I worked as the Division Maintenance NCO, and to put it in simple terms, I was tired and unable to handle to workload any more. Once again, it was time for me to move on to something else!

Now, I live in the Adirondacks, in Upstate New York. People from New York City call it "Upstate". However, that term applies to anywhere outside of "the city". Most New Yorkers call this area the "Capital Region". Those of us that live around here tend to call the area the "North Country". Regardless of what you call it. It is a great place to retire to. There is much to do, and see within just a short drive. Although, the winter's can be a bit difficult to handle at times, I really like the area!

My Army Assignments

93rd Evacuation Hospital, Long Binh, Vietnam, 1970-1971 (Now Deactivated)
During my first assignment in Vietnam, I was an Emergency Powerman working on a 24/24 basis. Manned a 200kw Wakesha Diesel Generator, along with my best friend, Varney Davis (we're still in contact today!). During this period I was a SP4. I also have many photographs from this assignment, but I can't remember what most of them were of, when, or why I took them!

3rd Surgical Hospital, Binh Thuy, Vietnam, 1971-1972 (Now Deactivated)
My second assigment in Vietnam. For some reason the unit did not need any power generator people, so I had to quickly learn to be an automotive mechanic. My days here ultimately got me a promotion, and finally, the position of Motor Sergeant. Here again, many photo's, but the memories of what and why are gone!

5th Evacuation Hospital, Ft. Bragg NC, 1972-1973
Finally, I got an assignment in my MOS trained position. Here, I was the Section Sergeant of the MUST gas-turbine powered generator systems for the "inflatable" hospital so popular in peacetime, yet so vunerable in combat! I enjoyed my work, but there were so many "extra details" in and around Fort Bragg, that when my enlistment was up, I took my discharge, and went home to Ohio!

41st Combat Support Hospital, Ft. Sam Houston TX, 1973-1974
After a two month stint at home, working back in the civilian sector, I realized my mistake, and re-enlisted! I landed in this assignment as the MUST Section Sergeant. Again, peacetime, little going on, and I was promptly sent to Fort Hood for the NCO Academy. After graduating Honor Graduate, I returned to the 41st, and settled down, doing section maintenance, and orientations on the MUST System to the Basic Officer's Course. Frequently, I was involved in the installation Funeral Detail (30 days at a time). It was here that I got married! And, my sister came for a short visit, and ended up marrying my friend Alex Sunyog. Also, during this asssigment, another promotion.

After this assignment, I left the "medical units", never to return again! Served in many other capacities, until I finally retired!
