His published obituary reads:
Charles H. "Chuck" Wickesberg, age 57, of Lake Tomahawk and formerly of
Howards Grove, died Wednesday October 29, 2003 at his home after a brief
battle with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile duct and liver.
He was born January 29, 1946, the oldest son of the late Herbert and
Hazel (Arpke) Wickesberg. Chuck graduated from Howards Grove High School
in 1964 and was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1965. He served his
country during the Viet Nam war from 1966-1967. He married his High
School sweetheart, Helen Heinze in 1968. He became a carpenter, and was
self employed for many years. For several years he worked with Damrow
Construction Company until his retirement in 1999.
Chuck was actively involved in promoting youth athletics through the
Howards Grove Athletics Club, of which he was a dedicated member. He was
also a life member of the Howards Grove V.F.W. Post 9924, a life member
of the Franklin American Legion Post #387, member of the Viet Nam
Veterans of America, National 4th Infantry Division Association and the
Disabled American Veterans Organization. Chuck enjoyed all sports,
barbershop music and his new home he built in the north woods.
Surviving him is Helen, his loving wife of 35 years; one brother, Mark
(Karen) Wickesberg of Sheboygan; two sisters, Jane (Ray) Coombs of
Plymouth and Marian (Peter) Warner of Howards Grove. Also surviving are
7 nieces and nephews and 10 grand nieces and nephews as well as 2
special Army buddies who spent time with him on his last day; Harley
LaRoche of Nevada and Michael Stavisky of Pennsylvania.
A Funeral Service will be conducted for Chuck on Monday November 3, 2003
at 8:00 p.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center,
W2132 Garton Road Sheboygan with the Reverend Wayne Drueck, officiating.
Committal and Military rites will be accorded on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan. Friends may call on the family at
Westview on Monday from 3 p.m. until service time.
Memorials would be appreciated to the Howards Grove Athletic Association
Youth Sports Program, D.A.V. of America or Dr. Kate Hospice Program of
Rhinelander.
