Andrew, what do you think of J. Krishnamurti?  Toni Packer was inspired by him

my

i have come to understand him better as i have got older !

he and u.g krishnamurti are complementary,  together they add to something competent and interesting,  apart something is missing in each : o()(

Spencer Tracy with Ernest and Mary Hemingway at the El Floridita in Havana, Cuba, ca. 1955

there's something unusual about this picture, perhaps the dissociation and depression of hemingway compared to the  “ locked-in-ness ”  of the others ?

why some professional hunters use a red light at night is it doesn't upset the body clock ! :o)

if you are working beyond the hours you would normally be sleeping, if you use a red light, the eye and brain still perceives that as being dark, but if you work under light with any blue in it  (white has blue in it)  then the body percieves that as day light and begins to induct jet lag in you :o)(

i don't think i realized  this  until about 50 or even later :o()

“ we need to remember, however, that awakening is not a permanent event [...] ”

my  reply

another unenlightened zen fuckwit !

awakening is a permanent event, a tip of the iceberg so to speak, a profoundly disrupting change and view point !!!!!!!!!

however i wouldn't say it gets that well worked through, it is remembered but only partly acted on, the working through is an optional process that takes the rest of your life ............... :o()))(

these shits pretending the experience and knowledge before they get to base one are disgusting in the sight of infinity and buddha...........

the evolutionary imperative behind luxury goods and brands !

gucci  ain't going out of business anytime soon :o()

“ women indicated they would be less likely to pursue a man whose partner was wearing a luxury outfit and accessories because they perceived the man to be more devoted. Whereas men often display luxury products to the opposite sex, women often seek to flaunt expensive possessions to the same sex........ women are the primary audiences of women's luxury consumption ”

and a  study  about it no less ! : o(()((()

the itching in shingles and herpes is due to the virus  drilling  holes in axon walls

“ [...] electrical current can leak through these holes, or fusion pores, and spread to nearby neurons that were similarly damaged, causing the neurons to fire all at once rather than as needed. The pores were likely created for the purpose of infecting new cells ”

andrei tarkovsky,  a  poet  in the cinema (1983)

i noticed i kept coming back to look at it, his astounding visual intelligence that so shines in his films :o)(

fred  writes

My first enlightenment experience like Brads was in 1981

You could say that something dipped into the Absolute, but there was nothing recording this “experience”, ie., there was no self there

So as Dogen says the Enlightened will not even know they are enlightened.

Not that it matters anyway.

my  reply

drug and alcohol experiences don't count fred, i presume you have dementia now because your endless posting of mostly  (good syliva palth  quote  tho !)  bullshit lacks any other explanation !

it's sorta sad because i can see you occasionally lift a bit, then sink back almost immediately :o()

omega-3 status  linked  to sleep quality in school children

interestingly they found a disturbing level of sleep problems in school children, their algal DHA trial gave an extra 46 minutes sleep at night and i would presume you get somewhat the same effect from quality fish oil !

the distance between what the modern medically and commercially sanctified diet provides and what our offal eating ape species needs is not a gathering storm but a ripping hurricane that you can see the damage and dysfunction everywhere !

she later attended the south african college of music !

it's a good example of how racially neutral voices are and how the human brain is primary over surroundings :o))(()

“ Eight years ago she didn't know what opera was. Living in a township, it was something that in no way touched her life – except as background music to TV commercials. But her moment of revelation came when, by chance, she heard the background music to that old BA  advertisement ,  the Lakme duet

As she  told  me, in a couple of minutes her life was changed. She asked a teacher what it was. He said: this is opera. She said: I want in on it ”

ed.  the flower duet  (from the opera Lakmé)  is in fact an arrangement by malcom mclaren and the composer yanni called  “aria on air”  !  if you listen to the BA video, scroll the execrable visuals out of sight, much better for your mental health :o()

yeah  Diogenes  of sinope is interesting !  he was obviously on autistic spectrum and sadly today would be medicated into some numb semi non-existant and half dead state like zen :o)

i have been very depressed for the last couple of months and tho i am not necesssarily a ray of light and can be abit of a pessimist, it wasn't normal, so have been trying to sort out what was behind it ! :o)

i think its been a combination of things, a wet winter  (hardly any sun !  :o(   so the food, especially animal products are coming from more stressed animals, taking less  copper  than i usually do, not eating feral thyroids since i haven't been hunting much at all............!

maybe too much  mushroom  D2 and hardly any uvb skin lamping

but i think particularly, tho i am not 100% sure, is i have been taking spirulina, tho not a lot, as it is helpful for the gut lining, indeed very good for it but the fly in the ointment is that it also has forms of b-12 which are not true b-12, but can clog up the bodies b-12 receptors and depression is a symptom of b-12 deficiency !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i have been taking some  b-12 , more copper, eating thyroids/neck sweetbreads and will uvb lamp my skin more and mushrooms less and have stopped taking spirulina and things seem to have/ to be improving............

b-12 in multitvitamin and mineral supplements becoming  converted  into disrupting analogue forms of b-12 through interactions with vitamin C, copper and thiamine is also a problem ! :o(

 python stone, tsodilo hills, botswana

“ a secret chamber behind the python stone. Some areas of the entrance to this small chamber were worn smooth, indicating that many people had passed through it over the years.

The shaman, who is still a very important person in San culture, could have kept himself hidden in that secret chamber. He would have had a good view of the inside of the cave while remaining hidden himself. When he spoke from his hiding place, it could have seemed as if the voice came from the snake itself. The shaman would have been able to control everything. It was perfect.

The shaman could also have  disappeared  from the chamber by crawling out onto the hillside through a small shaft ”

“ In the Instructions for the Tenzo, Dogen Zenji recorded his conversation with an old tenzo named Yong at Tendo Monastery. One hot summer day after lunch when Dogen was walking through a corridor, he saw the tenzo drying mushrooms in front of the buddha hall. The tenzo carried a bamboo cane, but had no hat on his head. He was drenched with sweat. The tenzo’s spine bent like a bow and with his shaggy eyebrows he looked like a crane. Dogen asked the tenzo’s age. The tenzo said, “Sixty-eight.” Then Dogen asked, “Why do you not have an attendant or lay worker do this?” The tenzo said, “Others are not me.” Dogen said, “Esteemed sir, you are truly dedicated. The sun is so hot. Why are you doing this now?” The tenzo replied, “What time should I wait for?”

Dogen wrote, “I immediately withdrew. Thinking to myself as I walked away, I deeply appreciated that this job expresses the essential function”  ”

the above story  was dogen's biggest mistake ,  he was just schizo, missed the important points and walked away when he should have been investigating !

first thing is since the tenzo had shaggy eyebrows he was in good health for his age with good circulation !

so the exercise was useful to him, not hard labour, but moderate exercise ! all the research now shows this is helpful as we age ! :o)

now since the sun was hot why is that important?

because he had the mushrooms out not simply to dry but be  irridated  by the UVB in intense sun so as to make vitamin D2,  extremely important to tide one over winter in good health and reduce the probability of getting  tuberculosis  !

that's why the tenzo replied  “ what time should i wait for ”  but dogen misunderstood it as some weird mystical  “essential function”  state

irridating/drying mushrooms in the sun requires finesse and attention to detail and alot of consistent care, not everybody is suitable having both the concentration and fine motor control, even a sixty-eight year old with these skills and abilities is better than the usual sort of twit that would be hanging around in a monastery !

dogen didn't offer to help, but fled and walked past the biggest opportunity of his life to get a handle on what could help his TB and for this disaster area he is lauded by the zen stupids of today who deludedly cling to some weird idea  of a schizophrenic essential state  and spew this crap on their censored forums and in their  “no criticism permitted”  talks

ignorant, blind, foolish stupid thinking themselves some holy ray of wrong minded light when it is just a univeral brown turd farting themselves to death :o)

the other mistake dogen made was not getting some of that intense sun on his  skin  to up his vitamin D3 levels and helping with the schizophrenia since it also helps brain function.............something the zen retards of today would also do well to think about :o)

save yourself some grief you retards there is no essential function mystical state, or if there is you haven't seen it on a fine clear day :o)(

well actually don't save yourselves some grief, but wallow in it please :o)(

poem  by dave st. germain

this time

when the marigold butterflies arrive,

resting on the ground

gently opening and closing wings

with grace, without purpose

or else the purpose is to bestow it upon me,

most-honored guest

at night

the sound of a moth's wings flitter above my head,

searching along the edge of the wall

desperate for an exit.

he belongs outside,

but his instincts have enslaved him

to a floor lamp.

my reply

however the point of zen and great creative talent is there is some secret well beyond our normal understanding, a literal stalker or roadside picnic  (ed. the film and the book)  so to speak, some resting between the horns of the moon and circumambulation/circumnavigation ?  of any number of known and unknown universes with infinities light......................

this understanding/truth is unpalatable to our breeding manic species......................

i think the ongoing discussion between sepehr g. and myself on the 7th zen patriarch  blog  is really about artistic content versus meditative reflection

there's no answer because there's no point you'd get to but artifically limiting your artistic and philosophical horizons the way this bastard form of zen that currently holds sway does

in my observation of what happens practically

is just to produce very limited people, both students, teachers and even the more remotely involved doing zazen and avoiding teachers !

Andrew, what about reading manga, watching art-house films, or etc.? I found Tezuka's Hi no Tori like poetry, and I also find Andrei Tarkovsky's films, particularly Stalker, on the level of poetry too.

Seriously, though, check out Stalker. It's one of the deepest experiences I've ever had in regards to art.

I definitely agree with you the creative process is indistinguishable from Zen... that is, it opens a window of infinite potentialities where anything is possible. It's like a feral cat, or even domestic cat, ready to prance on a prey. The only difference with the human is he is ready to prance and create a new world, or better represent this infinite myriad of world(s).

I feel as if your poetry opens up to this, Andrew. I've read a lot of your stuff on your site, but I don't see what makes poetry more special than film, sequential art, cartoons, or etc.

If you want, I can recommend you some great comics, film, and/or video games. I've always been more of a visual person, and this is why I BADLY want to learn how to draw well and make my own comics! I would do that more than write poetry. Perhaps, my characters would say poetic things...

But then again, maybe there is no clear delineation among these medium of art when they come from a deep sincerity and true creativity? A mind that is unfettered from wanting prestige, impressing others, and so forth...

my  reply

i think it's all to do with quality and depth of abstraction !

andrei tarkovsky | stalker | roadside  picnic  | arkady and boris strugatsky  has an abstraction depth

however the point of zen and great creative talent is there is some secret well beyond our normal understanding, a literal stalker or roadside picnic so to speak, some resting between the horns of the moon and circumambulation of any number of known and unknown universes with infinities light......................

this understanding/truth is unpalatable to our breeding manic species......................

On Seeing a Pupil of Kung-sun Dance the Chien-ch`i

On the nineteenth day of the tenth month of the second year of Ta-li  (15 November 767),  in the residence of Yuan Ch`ih, Lieutenant-Governor of K`uei-chou, I saw Li Shih-er-niang of Lin-ying dance the chien-ch`i.

Impressed by the brilliance and thrust of her style, I asked her whom she had studied under.  “ I am a pupil of Kung-sun ”,  was the reply.

I remember in the fifth year of K`ai-yuan  (717)  when I was still a little lad seeing Kung-sun dance the chien-ch`i and the hun-t`o at Yen-ch`eng.  For purity of technique and self-confident attack she was unrivalled in her day.

From the  “royal command performers”  and the  “insiders”  of the Spring Garden and Pear Garden schools in the palace down to the  “official call”  dancers outside, there was no one during the early years of His Sagely Pacific and Divinely Martial Majesty who understood this dance as she did.  Where now is that lovely figure in its gorgeous costume?  Now even I am an old, white-haired man,  and this pupil of hers is well past her prime.

Having found out about the pupil's antecedents, I now realized that what I had been watching was a faithful reproduction of the great dancer's interpretation. The train of reflections set off by this discovery so moved me that I felt inspired to compose a ballad on the chien-ch`i.

Some years ago, Chang Hsu, the great master of the  “grass writing”  style of calligraphy, having several times seen Kung-sun dance the West River chien-ch`i at Yeh-hsein, afterwards discovered, to his immense gratification, that his calligraphy had greatly improved.  This gives one some idea of the sort of person Kung-sun was !

In time past there was a lovely woman called Kung-sun, whose chien-ch`i astonished the whole world. Audiences numerous as the hills watched awestruck as she danced, and, to their reeling senses, the world seemed to go on rising and falling, long after she had finished dancing. Her flashing swoop was like the nine suns falling, transfixed by the Mighty Archer's arrows; her soaring flight like the lords of the sky driving their dragon teams aloft; her advance like the thunder gathering up its dreadful rage; her stoppings like seas and rivers locked in the cold glint of ice

The crimson lips, the pearl-encrusted sleeves are now at rest. But in her latter years there had been a pupil to whom she transmitted the fragrance of her art. And now in the city of the White Emperor the handsome woman from Lin-ying performs this dance with superb spirit. Her answers to my questions have revealed that there was good reason to admire, my ensuing reflections fill me with painful emotion.

Of the eight thousand women who served our late Emperor, Kung-sun was from the first the leading performer of the chien-ch`i.  Fifty years have now gone by like a flick of the hand - fifty years in which rebellions and disorders darkened the royal house.  The pupils of the Pear Garden have vanished like the mist.  And now here is this dancer, with the cold winter sun shining on her fading features.

South of the Hill of Golden Grain the boughs of the trees already interlace. On the rocky walls of Ch`u-t`ang the dead grasses blow forlornly. At the glittering feast the shrill flutes have once more concluded. When pleasure is at its height, sorrow follows.

The moon rises in the east, and I depart, an old man who does not know where he is going, but whose feet, calloused from much walking in the wild mountains, make him wearier and wearier of the pace

a beautiful poem by  tu fu

Morning Rain

A slight rain comes, bathed in dawn light

I hear it among treetop leaves before mist

Arrives. Soon it sprinkles the soil and,

Windblown, follows clouds away. Deepened

Colors grace thatch homes for a moment.

Flocks and herds of things wild glisten

Faintly. Then the scent of musk opens across

Half a mountain -- and lingers on past noon.
