i never understood edvard munch’s scream|shriek painting until i read this

“ i was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set; suddenly, the sky turned as red as blood

i stopped and leaned against the fence, feeling unspeakably tired

tongues of fire and blood stretched over the bluish black fjord

my friends went on walking, while i lagged behind, shivering with fear

then i heard the enormous, infinite scream of nature ”

if you look at the painting you can see he is wavy like the red sunset and the fjord and land

and the path is very linear and his friends though not quite as linear as the rail are of it while munch is wavy and i can’t say i’ve stopped screaming either

page 151  of  “ edvard munch :  behind the scream ”  by sue prideaux

‘ the dance of life ’  is good and look at the wide open eyes in  ‘ the dead mother ’  and his  ‘ self-portrait with a burning cigarette’

“ the sky colors and patterns in munch’s paintings match  sunset colors  better when nacreous clouds are present versus other scenarios ”
