  • Basic Concept:
The idea of The Mushroom Portals is really quite simple if you can picture the universe in eight dimensions.  However, since no one can, it is really complicated.  Each Mushroom Portal is one of a pair, one in each sphere to be connected.  If there is no matching portal, a Mushroom Portal will not work.  They operate by creating a 5th, 6th, and 7th dimensional tube between two spheres.  Since living creatures do not perceive these dimensions, they do not notice any tube.  They just walk into a portal and come out of another.  It is just like walking through any door, except instead of another room you are in another sphere.  Also, since humans only operate on four dimensions, they do not notice the 8th dimensional time it takes to get through the tube.

    Significance of the Death Mushroom:
On top of every Mushroom Portal is a Death Mushroom (the same that is used on Skull Warriors.)  This mushroom is topped with a lever that turns the Portal on and off.  Although the exact physics of this is not fully understood, we do know that Death Mushrooms on matching portals are grown next to each other.  A link is formed between the two mushrooms, and this is amplified and directed by the stone structure.  The lever operates by somehow focusing the link of the Death Mushroom on itself, causing the portal effect to collapse (this has something to do with zero distance between either end of the portal tube and the problem of dividing by zero.)

    The Three Stones
The three boulders that make up most of the portal can be of any material, as long as it is not:

Their purpose is to channel the linking power of the Death Mushrooms into a portal that mushrooms (or humans) can walk through.  The link originally made by the Death Mushrooms is only the size of the mushrooms.  The system of three boulders acts as a lens to make the portal larger and to magnify the effect.  The boulders can be of any shape, but the space between them (where the portal is) must be larger than a Death Mushroom.

    The Shiny Lights
One of the most striking features of a Mushroom Portal is the multi-colored glowing 'material' in the space where the two spheres link.  This is simply the result of matter floating in the space between universal spheres getting stuck against the tube between portals.  When it comes into contact with a universe that it is not compatible with, it is annihilated in a flash of light.  All of these flashes combined produce the 'static' typical of a Mushroom Portal.  Occasionally compatible material (kitchen sinks, strange alien artifacts, etc.) comes through a portal unexpectedly.

    Attraction Caused by Portals
The link that the Death Mushrooms have with each other, when amplified by the three boulders, can cause a dangerous attraction of two spheres.  If the portals are active for long enough (in 4th dimensional, normal time) the spheres can be dragged into each other.  What could happen then?

    Theories

    Three Way Portals
As with most new technologies (although this one is alien) people want to make money off of the principle of the Mushroom Portals.  It would be easier to have a network of portals instead of many pairs, but this currently cannot be done.  The theory behind this is that if three Death Mushrooms could be grown near each other that they could be used to make a three-way link.  The problem is that the growth of Death Mushrooms is so completely random that it is rare to have even two Death Mushrooms grow next to each other.  Even if it could be done, any object put into a portal would be split in half, with one half coming out of each other portal.
