Recently, the Pennsylvania Government devised a Graduation Project
that all high school students would have to complete. In compliance with the
Pennsylvania State Board of Education’s Chapter 4
requirements, each student was required to complete a project in one or more
areas of concentrated study which comprise the student’s high school
experiences. The purpose of the project, which includes research, writing,
and appropriate forms of demonstration and communication of one’s project,
is to assure that the student can satisfactorily apply, analyze, synthesize,
and evaluate information and to communicate knowledge and understanding on a
given concept or subject. Both the process and the product of the project
are integral components of this activity.
Each year, the students participating in this process, must complete
pre-set requirements. The student’s Graduation Project must be
completed before the student graduates. If the student does not finish the
project, then he / she shall not be able to graduate until the project is
completed.
This project began in Loyalsock Township High School with
the class of 2003 (my class). Though we were in tenth grade at the time, we
still had enough time to complete the project. The class of 2004 were the
first to begin the project in ninth grade.
