There is a great untold story of the Californios that has never really been told. That is the story of those hardy souls who valiantly fought for the property rights vested in the Californio people and tried to keep California for the Californios. Unlike some who cooperated with the usurpers from the east or elsewhere and gave the rights of others away, these gentle folk tried to defend their land not by compromise and shunning their responsibilities. That is why their names are not mentioned in the history books. For as everyone knows.....history is written by the Conquerors!
