The Christmas Island Hawk Owl

I am the female of our species and will be telling you about us today. First of all it's very important for you to know that we are one of three nationally threatened birds of prey in Australia. One of the others is the Spotted owl and I'm not sure what the other one is. There are only about 1000 of us left and that is very scary to us.

We resemble our cousins the Boobook owl as we are reddish-brown in color and our breasts are whitish with reddish bars and we have yellow eyes.
We mainly eat insects but have been known upon occasion to catch small lizards and birds if we're lucky.
I usually lay only 1 or 2 eggs and and it takes about 32 days to hatch. My young usually are ready to leave the nest in about 5 mos. or so.       Our only home is
Christmas Island which is about 53 square miles and is located in the Indian Ocean south of Java, which is not too far from Australia. Well I have to go and tend to my baby now, but hold good thoughts for us. We need them.
