EWS Updated Daily

The Exorcist parts have been removed due to a unexplained increase in darn bad luck in my life. As of 11/11/98

Infomation Overload !!... HALFLIFE : Well it should be on the shelves very soon.. i've learnt my lesson so i'll just say i'd be extremly suprised if it isn't out come the end of November. BLOOD2 : The excellent game is to be in stores on the 20-28th of this month.... i'll narrow that down after a few phone calls so expect a update soon. SIN : I've totally given up playing this buggy game until the patch is out (this will not affect the SiN page though)...which i expect will be another Quake 2 type 8MB thing... as it will include reworked singleplayer maps in a pak type format plus a new copy of the SiN.exe the source of all the problems. BLADE : If you haven't seen this outstanding film then your obviously mad, if you like Bruce Lee stuff then this is for you. Blood, guns, vampires and or course loads of violence ..its got my vote. FALLOUT 2 : The best game ever!!! undisputed!!is to be released this Friday the 20th, including the devestated LA boneyard and The Hub form the original, but this time its 40 or so years later. Fallout 2 features weapon mixing, intelligent companions (this time they actually think... wow), a host of new mutated creatures to kill and the all important new weapons including the M72 Gauss Rifle, M3A1 Grease Gun and the Solar Scorcher.

SiN is good game... If you somehow manage to play it through without the many bugs showing up. Below are some of the more annoying ones...
  1. Locks up totally every level or so (my just be down to my dodgy Rightous 3D card though)
  2. The levels take an age to load in... usually around 3-4 mins everytime you die.
  3. Some nasty parts in the levels where you can get completly stuck in the scenery.
  4. The cutscenes for many levels don't work properly.
  5. In game background sounds e.g (engine humming and the like) in later levels drown out the voices and gunfire (personal gripe put it pecks my head)
  6. The spidermines don't work at all, when you pick them up in the warehouse level.
  7. The default keys do not bind any numbers to the speargun... which is damn annoying.
  8. The mutanted mancini on the train level in your final confrontation with him... he just stands there and doesn't move.
  9. Some of the levels if you try and save your games it crashes out totally.
  10. Mission briefings for the next level sometimes have no relevance to what your last level was... for instance after killing the mutants on the Biotech level and flying to the sewers it says that the warehouse foreman told you of a plan to put u-4 in the water works... but whatever way you do it he doesn't.
  11. The much hyped action orientated mission outcomes are a complete lie... many of the items you pickup have no use at all, and the ones that you do merly alter the cutscenes and mission biefings slightly.
  12. The skins under muti-layer are dodgy to fuck and are all covered in red patches where there should be damaged parts of the skin.
  13. In the level where you change into a mutant it crashes out every minute or two with an error in the sin.exe
  14. ......and many many MANY more.

So the entire game for me was let down my the apparent lack of any playtesting to try and iron out some of these pretty major bugs. Its becoming more and more apparent that software houses are letting the pre-beta version be playtested by the public then about two weeks later start bringing out patches for the bugs as there found... Well before the offical patch is out, stop tearing your hair out and read some of the fixes that can be done below....

  1. If you've got a Rightious 3D then just bash it up and bin it... thats the easiest way.
  2. There isn't much you can do about this but if you on starting the game pull down the console and type: developer 1 :that quicken the load by around 20 seconds as it removes the loading graphic and runs it through the console... the only drawback is that loads of error messages come up in-game. You can also add :set flushmap 0 :to your player config file this is pretty useful when you are reloading after dying.... as it stops the level being reloaded just the player position and everything else.
  3. If your really pissed by these... finish the job off for them and unpak the maps and edit them through sinED, to sort out the annoying bits.
  4. There is currently a workaround for the oilrig cutscene but it involves hacking the pak0.sin file and is pretty unsound.
  5. (BICKER)
  6. Don't know why ....just another completly fucked up level basiclly
  7. bind the o key to the spear gun e.g. at console type: bind o use speargun :which will sort that one.
  8. Either he's paralised for your last encounter or its just another fucked up part.... humm i'll go for the latter.
  9. Try qicksaving then quickloading them... I haven't tried it but it might work.
  10. Gee guess were the playtesting folk....
  11. (BICKER)
  12. Okay this one can be fixed... add this .cfg file to your sin/base directory and use it as your custom .cfg file for your player profile in gamespy when running a muti-player game. Alter the name and skin in the file as you wish.
  13. Pretty major fuck up this one... roll on patch.

Thats your lot until a patch surfaces.... which should take around a week.

In the builders office on the construction site level there are pervy photos everywhere, just like the good old duke nukem days.....

.....check here soon for a complete secretareas guide for all the levels in the game, plus the branching levels and how to get to them. (sin walkthrough) .Will be online when the game actually works... i.e when ritual finish it off and bring out a patch.

Blood2 Update.. Its been almost a week since the Blood 2 demo was released.. But the last one was very buggy, in that it did not give an accurate representation of the full games frame rate. So to fix this Monolith have re-released the demo, i have download both and their is quite a lot of diffrence in the second demo's speed.

Some more info on the full version for you.... There are to be four of the 'chosen' (diffrent character with individual special abilities to use). A total of 20 weapons (including the Death ray, Flare gun and singularity generator ), 30 single player / co-op levels, 10 Bloodbath levels.... and full support by Gamespy and Heat for mutiplayer antics.

Is'nt Caleb just the funniest guy... he's like Jack Dee but with a trench coat and a beretta (kind of). Fans of the original will fondly remember the songs Caleb would sing to himself during the butchering and the insults he would hurl at his enemies, Anyway... i've extracted these from the demos first level. Check them out below...

They are all in .Wav format :-

There's a Storm comin'.. Daikatana is the RPG/shooter under development by Ion Storm. What makes this one probably the best contender for the Quake 2 crown...well its mainly down to John Romero the head man over at Ion storm, he is one of the creators of Quake and is heading up the project. Romero split from I.D software a while back and has since been working on Daikatana, injecting into it the best elements of Quake and adding a twist of originallity. The game's story like most invented by the Japanese (take FFVII for instance) is totally off its head, but the basis is that some Warlord who has the ability to leap through time..and has such created a powerful hold on every time period he has appeared in. But absolute power brings absolute corruption and soon the guy turns insane not satisfied until all are his slaves, but not without the legendary Daikatana sword can this be accomplished. Enter four noble warriors who set out to destroy him before he can find this articafct of ultimate power. So the search begins jumping through time periods from the Romans to Medieval times, present then the future..... Encompasing vast 3D environments and hundreds of individual modeled and skinned enemies, this must be the most promising first person shooter under development yet. What they are trying to achieve if they get it right will be truly awesome. With 1-9 weapons or more per time period, and individual level textures. They sure have ther work cut out if they intend on releasing it for Christmas. From the screen-shots i've seen this will need some bitchin' machine to run it... were talking P2 300 + 64 Ram voodoo 2 type thing. This will be the second game for Ion Storm after Dominion's disapointment (allthough i didn't think it was that bad) it looks like they will be putting 100% into Daikatana. As you can see from the screenshots that determination to come out on top is really beginning to show.....

For now there are some small video images of the Daikatana intro... and further down some fullscreen in-game shots.

The Bad Man's Here!.. Well Monolith's Blood 2 has made it to its demo phases and is ready for download. The demo itself is 36MB's and is pretty cool with weapons such as the knife, dual beretta's, Mac-20, Car-15 assault rifle and lets not forget the reappearence of the Tesla Cannon and Voodoo doll. Its only a two level demo but its still well worth the dowload time. The first level is set in a govenment disease control centre... eventually fighting your way up to the Cabelco (the bad guys) tower block inside an external elevator shooting police helecopters as they fly by. For fans of the original its all here for The taunts..like 'i'm gonna beat you like a bad step child' and 'i'm your best reason to be afraid' to the numerous civilan scientists wandering around the place. The story follows on from the last with Cabal having defeated his master he goes out in search of the other Chosen.. in a kind of highlander style 'there can be only one' killing spree. This enables you to play the game through as diffrent characters with special abilities, which should be a laugh. Well its by GT interactive so expect a lot of slipage, GAME are saying December/January... PC Zone are saying end November and i'm saying fuck the lot of them. When i have a definate release date that i can verbally confirm with Monolith then you will know.

For now just take a peek at the in-game shots below ...i have to admit there not very good quality but due to the demos nigh impossible screen capture ability.. i've had to use magazine scans. As soon as i've got some demo shots i'll post them here.

You can download the demo here from Games Domains site B2demo.zip

Activision suck ass.. With the release of Sin, Activision display how shite there marketing bods are. Just like Unreal's developers the 'worldwise' release that we were promised has gone, showing they clearly just don't care about the European gamers. Anyway sorry for the misinformation... it WILL not happen again. Well when IS it released in the U.K i hear you cry.. Well Electronics Boutique reckons its out this Friday that'll be Friday the 13th (yipee). But i've learnt not to put to much stock in what EB say ...If it ain't out this week-end and you haven't allready done so buy Carmaggedon II" its fucking amazing, and its a game that is released on time.... How novel.

SiN Finally go's Gold.. It's taken an absolute age for Ritual to release SiN their first commerical game... With exeption to the Scourge of Armageddon Mission Pack for Quake, which was excellent incidentily (just in case your new to the genre). It may be that Ritual just want Sin to be the runaway success that it looks set to be and so have been fine-tuning it so mutiple patches are not needed. Anyway after a week of 'inside source' leaks as too the offical release date an offical one has finally been announced... probably after Ritual read the last Sin up-date here (or... not). Anyway get your calenders out and mark down this Friday the 6th of Nov as the date when most major games suppliers will have there hands on it. With the release of the full game ..besides turning into a hermit, i'll be expanding this sites SiN page.
I have created the news archive to store all October/Early November news in so if there is something you missed or want to check out take a peek. To view previous months news items take a look at the NEWS ARCHIVE... HERE
