Nazarov gets seven-game suspension
Fri. Nov. 20, 1998.

NEW YORK - Tampa Bay Lightning forward Andrei Nazarov has been suspended for seven games, without pay, and fined $1,000 (the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement) as a result of a cross checking incident with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cam Russell. Nazarov received a match penalty for deliberate injury. "The action by Nazarov, in which he struck his opponent with a cross check to the face, was deliberate and reckless," said NHL director of hockey operations Colin Campbell. "The length of the suspension reaffirms the League's position that this type of conduct warrants severe disciplinary action." Nazarov will be out of action until Dec. 4.
