Marching Season Schedules and Competitions

Rehearsals
Marching band rehearsals are every school day from 7:00am until 8:15 am.  Students have 45 minutes to attend tutorials if need be.  On the occasion of home games only the band will not rehearse in the morning but will meet after school at the stadium at 4:30pm. Shuttle buses are provided to transport students to the stadium.

Absences & Tardies
If a student is going to miss a rehearsal, game, or competition it is their (not their parents) responsibility to notify the instructor before the event begins, or as soon as possible.  If a student fails to notify the instructor of an absence that student will not participate in the next performance.  In the case of tardies, all students should arrive early to all events to recieve announcements or get equipment ready.  The penalty for tardies will be decided by the instructor; in the case of excessive tardies the student will be removed from the next performance.

Games and Competitions
All colorguard students are expected to attend every football game and competition.  Football games are, the majority of the time, on Friday nights and are either on the Northwest Campus or at the opposing team's campus (away games).  Transportation for all colorguard students is provided by the school to all away games.  Football games usually begin at 7:30pm and end around 10:00pm-10:30pm.  Students may leave away games with their parents but the parent must sign out their student before leaving the game.  Competitions are mainly on Saturdays and will usually last all day long.  Students should check the calendar and not schedule any plans for those competition dates.  Students may wish to bring money for concessions if the band boosters do not provide food.

Winterguard Rehearsal and Competition Schedules

Competitions-

Competitions usually fall on Saturdays and may last all day long. Members will need to plan in advance to participate in these events. We will leave from the High School and transportation to and from the competitions will be provided by the school. Students may wish to bring a few dollars as we will usually go to a resturaunt for dinner.

Rehearsals-

Before the second semester begins, Winterguard Rehearsals will be after school on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30pm - 7:30pm. Please make arrangements to attend.

Rehearsals begin during the school day. The winterguard class is Eighth block (or last block on B days) and rehearsal will continue until 6:00pm after school. Students will need to make arrangements to be picked up at this time on B days only.

Arrangements may be made if members need to leave early on Wednesdays for religious obligations.

Winterguard Rules and Guidelines

Absences -

If a member is absent from a rehearsal he/she is responsible for learning any missed work before the next rehearsal. Students must call two days in advance to notify the instructor of absences if possible. Acceptable situations for not calling include: death in the family, sudden illness, car accidents. The phone number to call for absences is 817-215-0280.

Tardiness & Leaving Early-

Students are not prohibited from attending tutorials during the after school portion of rehearsal. However, it is advised that students plan ahead enough to go to tutorials in the morning or after school on an A-Day.  Students may leave early if they have notified the instructor at least a day in advance.

Attitude -

Members should recognize that they represent Northwest Colorguard, Band and High School. At all times members should conduct themselves in a way that positively reflects themselves and their peers.

Grades -

The North Texas Colorguard Association follows the same guidelines as UIL for grades. No pass/no play. If a member fails a six weeks during Winterguard season they will not be allowed to participate for the rest of the semester or allowed to participate in marching band or winterguard without a year's proof of passing grades. Students are allowed two failing grades before they are dismissed from the program entirely.

Costs

The cost for marching season for new students averages around $300.00.  The average cost for winterguard is $125.00.   Any changes to this cost will be made known at the earliest possible convenience.

We will need a floor crew for the 2008 winterguard season. Anyone interested in helping with props, equipment, or pulling the floor please e-mail me at sefflandt@nisdtx.org
