About us

National Institute of Management Calcutta (NIMC) has been established in Calcutta, one of the oldest industrial metropolises of the country, to impart management training to young men and women in various discipline to enable them to meet the growing demands of Industry in today’s liberalised economic environment. The Institute was established under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) which is running more than 120 schools and Professional Institute throughout the country including an Engineering College, another MBA Institute , and an Institute of Hotel management. NIMC is run by experienced professionals and academicians with Dr. Sujit Kumar Basu (ex-IIM, Calcutta) as Director.

Fully residential, first batch of MBA programme started as scheduled, in July'97, with a intake of 60 students. The second batch of MBA programme started with an intake of 60 students from 6^th July'98. The third batch of the programme is scheduled to start on 5^th July'1999.

The Institute is launching another programme leading to the Degree of Master in Computer Applications (MCA), 3 year full time residential course with batch strength of 30 students, from 5^th July'99.

Mission

The mission of NIMC is to remain ever committed to excellence in all endeavours related to imparting education and training to youth in management and related disciplines so as to facilitate their gainful utilization in enhancing quality of managerial performance in organizations.

Objectives

• To provide comprehensive catalytic support for education and development of young men and women in management and related areas, in a disciplined environment, in consonance with the contemporary needs of the industry.
• To provide an effective forum for interaction between academics and organisational decision-makers through consulting and training programmes for enhancing organisational efficiency.
• To promote quality research, both theoretical and applied, aimed at building and documenting knowledge and developing indigenous literature on management.
• To inculcate in the students a spirit of leadership based on values of national heritage and tradition and the society and prepare them to face challenges of management of change.

The Institute strives to achieve its objectives through various programmes of education, training and research.

The aim of all educational programmes at NIMC is to develop outstanding leaders the society needs for shaping tomorrow’s business. Discipline, effectiveness, all round excellence and a strong sense of fraternity are the key words and phrases that are greatly emphasized in the NIMC environment.
