Dr. Helmy Nazmy Beshara, a Coptic Orthodox Christian, took the photo on the right of the Apparition of the Blessed Holy Virgin Mary over the domes of St. Mark's Church in Assiut on Saturday 16 September 2000 at 5:00 AM.

In October 2000, the Middle East, as we Americans call it, erupted once more in widespread violence. In this crossroads of three world religions, it would make sense to seek signs of, or from, the Virgin Mary.

On August 17, 2000, apparitions of the Virgin Mary began to be reported at St. Mark's Church in Assiut, Upper Egypt. "Glorious lights and big, bright white doves…dazzling supernatural lights and blue-green flashes over the church (without any source of light to explain them). Many residents and pilgrims also recount seeing the Blessed Holy Virgin Mary in a full figure."
