Eli Whitney is perhaps our closest "Notable Kin". We share perhaps 20 or so immigrant ancestors with Eli Whitney through our common ancestral couple: Nathaniel and Mary (Child) Whitney III. Eleanor (Fisher) Baldwin was a granddaughter of Abigail (Whitney) Bruce and a Kansas Pioneer in the 1860's. Her grandmother, Abigail (Whitney) Bruce was a first cousin of Eli. Her diary of their trip from Iowa to Kansas is in the Baldwin section.

Kansas Pioneer Eleanor (Fisher) Baldwin was a first cousin, twice removed, from Eli Whitney. To position yourself from Eli, just count generations you are from Eleanor and add that number of generations to two. You will be first cousin, _xx_ removed.
