All Good Things Must Come To An End Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
As the summer of 1984 neared the band started taking more and more time off between shows. Everyone but Brian was working full time as well as playing in the band. And they found that other responsibilities were pulling at them. So they slowly began drifting in different directions. Some of the members were finding themselves more and more involved with other things that were taking control of their lives. In addition to that, Mitch became engaged and was considering plans to move to the west coast. Rik began exploring his options for the future. And Tony became more and more restricted due to family responsibilities. While still playing whenever they had the opportunity, the guys found themselves working on other projects on their own. Mitch's connections in the music industry landed an opportunity for Rik and Mitch to get together with former members of "Dixie Suite" to make a brief appearance at the Wax Museum along with "Queensryche" and "Twisted Sister", where they were introduced to the audience by "Twisted Sister" front man (And Rik's new Mustang-Buddy), Dee Snyder. During this time Brian began playing with another local group whenever Knightmayre was idle. With everything changing around them the members began contemplating life without Knightmayre. They decided to finish off the year and then take a break to decide what they were going to do. It looked like the band was about to call it quits. Especially with Rik and Mitch both making plans to move out of the area and join the military. Knightmayre traveled to Virginia Beach, and on July 26, 1984 they got together for a performance with the band "Trix" in what turned out to be their final show. With the closing chords of Quiet Riot's "Metal Health", the '84 World Tour and "Knightmayre" came to a premature end. The day of the show in Virginia Beach, Rik had an accident: rupturing his ear drum and requiring sugery as soon as they returned home. This prevented him from playing any more shows for a couple months (And aborting his military career). By the time he was healed Mitch was making his final plans to move to Calafornia. And Brian had quit the band to play full time with his other band. Having no desire to try regrouping for a last ditch farewell show without Brian available. Rik, Tony and Mitch decided to call it quits. And "Knightmayre" officially came to an end. |
