The Pyrenean Mountain Dog is a magnificent French breed which has admirers the world over. Originally used as a livestock guardian in the Pyrenees Mountains, its role in the modern world is many and varied. New Zealand is a relatively new home for the breed - its pawprints first fell on our shores about 50 years ago. Needless to say, the popularity and public awareness of the breed has grown considerably. In other words, when you walk your favourite Pyr along the street and people try to guess the breed, a few get it right!
