Paul's Pearl Jam Videos

Updated November 12, 2000

Purpose

This page was designed to facilitate video trading and also for me to keep track of my collection. There is nothing worse than getting a great video only to find out that the picture is so shit you can't even tell it's Pearl Jam. That's why I have graded my videos in terms of picture and sound quality.

Video Trading Guidelines

I'm open to the usual trading guidelines for all of these shows, however I do not have a 2nd VCR - therefore I cannot dub videos. However, I would be interested in dealing two of my audios to get a video. I will typically only accept videos in SP mode unless otherwise specified.

Videos I'm Looking For

8/22/98 Barrie, Ont

High quality 1st or 2nd Gen videos

  • Older (91-93) proshot shows or clips from shows

e-mail me: psouthin@ca.imshealth.com

*note*

Shows in red are considered to be some of the best Pearl Jam vids available. The top ten list is outlined here at Five Horizons.

10/22/90 Seattle 45min

picture: B+ sound: A-

comments: First show ever under the name Mookie Blaylock. Video includes soundcheck (Even Flow). Camera is straight on but picture is a little bit dark. 4th Gen.

11/13/90 Seattle 60min Temple of the Dog

picture: B sound: A

comments: Only full TOTD show ever. Everyone is there but Eddie. Picture isn't as clear as it could be. 6th Gen.

02/11/91 Hollywood 30min

picture: B sound: C+

comments: The picture is quite dark and the audio real low. It's a "Mookie Blaylock" show yet I'm almost certain that Eddie is wearing a shirt with PEARL written on it.

07/13/91 New York, NY 35min (incomplete)

picture: A sound: A

comments: 3rd gen. Proshot. Set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive. The last four songs (Garden, Deep, Why Go, Porch) are missing.

08/23/91 Seattle 45min

picture: C+ sound: A-

comments: This is the closer of the two versions, shot from the 2nd row at the right side of the stage. My copy is generation: unknown and it shows. I'm looking for an upgrade that still has colour!!

11/11/91 New York, NY 25min Roseland Ballroom (inc.)

picture: A sound: B

comments: 3rd gen. Proshot. Incomplete, gets cut off at Alive. Sound is a little fuzzy.

11/11/91 Interview w/ Ed & Stone backstage 15min

picture: A sound: A

comments: 3rd gen. Quite a funny little interview, Eddie and Stone joke around a lot.

11/14/91 Yonkers, Ny 45min (Tower Records)

picture: B sound:A-

comments: Acoustic in-store performance. Picture is a bit fuzzy, but sound is great. Video includes footage of the group doing autographs afterwards.

02/12/92 Amsterdam 70min

picture: A- sound: A

comments: Excellent video. Shot from straight ahead. Some serious stage diving.

03/02/92 Den Haag 90min

picture: B+ sound: A

comments: Shot from straight on, the camerawork is great. My video is a little fuzzy at the beginning but then clears up. Eddie does some serious climbing during Porch.

03/04/92 Utrecht 80min

picture: B sound: A

comments: 3rd Gen. PIcture is quite grainy due to generation loss, which makes me think that it's older than 3rd gen. ..too bad, because it's a nice vid.

03/06/92 Rotterdam 90min

picture: A sound: A

comments: This is THE best Pearl Jam video out there. It is shot from straight ahead, and close-up. The band gives an awesome performance. 3rdGen.

03/16/92 New York 45min MTV Unplugged *uncut version *

picture: A sound: A

comments: Includes Oceans and Ritfw.

04/23/92 Miami, FL 50min

picture:A sound:A

comments: 3rd gen. Cool video, shot straight on, with a tripod. Eddie gets pissed with the crowd but still does his usual climbing/diving routine.

04/11/92 Saturday Night Live 10min

picture: A sound: A

comments:

06/08/92 Landgraaf, Holland 25min

picture: A- sound: A

comments: 5th gen. Proshot. Surprisingly good picture for the generation - just a tiny bit fuzzy. This clip is chopped up and edited for Dutch TV. It includes Alive/Porch/Interview with Ed and Jeff/Suggestion-Rockin' in the Free World. A complete proshot version would be nice.

06/17/92 Milan 60min

picture: A -sound: A

08/02/92 Tinley Park, Il 30min Lollapalooza

picture: B+ sound: B+

comments: Shot from the right foot of the stage. Colour fades in and out at some points. My copy is cut at the end of video and is missing the last 15mins of the show.

08/22/92 Miami 45min Lollapalooza

picture: A- sound: A

comments: Beautiful video. Cameraman starts at the foot of the stage and then half way through, the picture cuts for a second, and he films the rest from the side of the stage. One of my favorites.

08/29/92 East Troy 45min Lollapalooza

picture: A+ sound: A

comments: Another beauty. Filmed entirely from the left side of the stage. This is my absolute favorite video as the band gives an awesome performance.

12/31/92 New York 55min

picture: B sound: A-

comments: 4th Gen. Generation loss starting to set in. Proshot, very nice video. The sound goes down during one song. I'd actually want an upgrade (3rd gen or less). E-mail me if you have it.

08/14/93 Winnipeg 90min

picture: A sound: B+

comments: Proshot. Like all copies the sound goes out during Glorified G, and also like most copies Eddie is drunk. It's a 3 camera mix with some nice close ups.

08/18/93 Toronto 10min

picture: A sound: B

comments: 2 songs proshot. Animal and Wny Go. The picture is very clear (shot during the daytime). For some reason the sound is off, as if there is an echo.

10/28/93 San Francisco 15min

picture: A+ sound: A

comments: 3 songs proshot. Blood, Even Flow and Dissident.

11/05/93 Indio, Ca 90min

picture: B sound: A

comments: Shot from straight on - the picture is dark - the lighting at the venue isn't very good. It's a cool video to have, with the shoe-throwing/Fuck me in the Brain stuff, but all-in-all it's not really one of my favorites. Rats is partially cut on this video.

11/07/93 Mesa, AZ 15min

picture: A sound: A

comments: 3 songs proshot. Glorified G, Daughter(WMA) and Once. During Glorified G Ed stuffs a package-worth of cigarettes into his mouth and lights them all up at once.

03/15/94 St. Louis 115min

picture: A sound A

comments: One of my newest favourites. This video is shot from the right of the stage, and is a very clear picture. 3rd Gen.

04/11/94 Boston 130min

picture: A sound A

comments: 2nd Gen. Shot from the left of the stage, there are some strange camera lighting effects which bring it down from an A+, but this is basically a beautiful video. The picture is very clear, and there are some nice close-ups of Eddie (not so much anyone else).

04/16/94 Saturday Night Live 15min

picture: A+ sound: A+

comments: Not For You/Rearviewmirror/Daughter.

04/17/94 New York 10min

picture: A+ sound: A+

comments: 3rd gen. Proshot. 2 songs: Go and Animal.

10/02/94 Bridge Benefit 45min

picture: A sound: A

05/06/95 Ed w/Mike Watt, Chicago, IL - Cabaret Metro 65min *coming soon*

picture: A sound: A

comments: Proshot. Eddie playing with Mike Watt and Dave Grohl. Unknown gen.

06/20/95 Red Rocks, Co 135min

picture: A- sound: A

comments:

07/09/95 Milwaukee 120min

picture: B+ sound: A

comments: Shot from straight ahead, but far. Clear picture.

11/06/95 San Diego 145min

picture: B+ sound:A-

comments: Haven't watched the whole thing yet (still), seems to be filmed from far away.

09/21/96 Toronto 110min Maple Leaf Gardens

picture: A- sound: A

comments: Upgraded . . .this is much better than the other version out there. The audio and video are in sync and there is zero obstruction. One of my favourites - if only because I was there.

10/29/96 London 120min Wembley Arena

picture: B+ sound: A-

comments: Shot from higher up to the left, but close to the stage. Picture is clear. Some good close ups.

11/13/96 Milan 120min

picture: B sound: B-

comments: Shot from straight on and far away. A typical '96 video. Problem here is that the sound is wavy, as the volume goes up and down.

11/24/96 Lisbon 120min

picture: C- sound: A-

comments: Well it sounds like Pearl Jam!! This is my worst vid. Since getting this one I am much more picky about picture quality. It seems to be shot from . . . ahh forget it, you don't want this vid.

11/25/96 Lisbon 120min isbon 125min

picture: A sound: A

comments: A good video. 3rd gen upgrade. Shot from the Stone side of the stage, and pretty close. There is some grain in the picture, but overall not too bad.

12/04/96 Rome, GOA Club 55min

picture: C sound: B+

comments: 5th Gen. Very rare, black and white, Eddie solo. Somewhere out there, somebody has a nice master copy of this show which is probably one of the best vids you can find. It's shot right at the side of the stage, however it's completely dark and unclear by the 5th gen.

11/14/97 Oakland 60min

picture: A- sound: A

comments: A two camera mix (not from the big screens), shot from fairly high up. It's low gen. If you're looking for a Stones opener, this is the one. First video to capture the previously unreleased Yield tracks Given to Fly, Wishlist and Do the Evolution.

11/14/97 Oakland 60min (Proshot)

picture: A+ sound: A

comments: 2nd gen. From the big screen video feed. Very very nice video - probably one of the best vids to have. The sound is nice and clear, perfect picture, camerawork, etc. Nice closeups on the guitarwork.

02/20/98 Maui 110min

picture: B+ sound: A

comments: Shot from straight on and fairly close. The picture is pretty clear, the camera is sometimes shaky. My copy is 3rd Gen.

06/14/98 Washington, DC - Tibetan Freedom Concert 45min

picture: A sound: A

comments: A three camera mix - all from Stone's side?! 3rd Gen. Relatively clear picture, not to many great closeups. Also included the Red Hot Chili Peppers mini-set and REM's full set on the same vid.

07/05/98 Dallas, TX 120min

picture: A+ sound: A

07/07/98 Albuquerque, NM 115min

picture: A sound: A-

comments: 1st gen, shot from the right of the stage. Some focus problems at the beginning, but it clears up through the rest of the show. Ed breaks a hole through the stage and disappears through it at the end of the show (just like Boston 4/12/94).

07/13/98 Inglewood, CA 105min, The Forum

picture: A- sound: A

comments: 3rd Gen. Shot from Mike's side of the stage. Fairly close..

07/16/98 Sacramento, CA 115min

picture: A sound:A-

comments: 2-cam, 3rd gen. Good camera shots. . one straight on, and the other from the right side of the stage. There seems to be that low-lighting effect on the camera which is somewhat annoying.

07/21/98 Seattle 110min, Memorial Stadium

picture: A- sound: B+

comments: Shot from the McCready side and higher up. 1st Gen. Some obstruction as people walk by and the sound is somewhat distant.

07/22/98 Seattle 120min, Memorial Stadium

picture: A- sound: A

comments: 2nd Gen. Shot from the Stone side and a little bit up. Excellent picture quality, and good sound.

08/20/98 Montreal 115min, Molson Centre

picture: A sound:A

comments: 1st Gen. Shot from straight ahead and high up. The camera gets zoomed in nicely, but there are no great close-ups. Very clear picture, and the sound is great. An awesome performance with Hard to Imagine played for the first time in years (then again, I'm biased because I was there!). The first song (Sometimes) was missed by the taper.

09/08/98 New Jersey 115min

picture: A sound: B+

comments: 2nd Gen. 2-cam mix. Shot from Stone's side and from straight on. Amazing vid. The second cam takes a few songs to kick in, and is a little far compared to the side shot. There are some interesting effects which seem to show up during Mike's solos . . . somewhat annoying. Overall, very nice vid.

09/10/98 New York 120min, MSG

picture: A- sound: A

comments: 2nd gen. 2-cam mix. One camera in front and one on Mike's side. Some interesting split screens, etc but the editing of the mix is not as good as New Jersey (picture freezes sometimes in between songs). Sound and picture are crisp, nice vid overall.

09/11/98 New York 135min, MSG

picture: A- sound: ?

comments: Incomplete - Alive is cut at the very end.

09/19/98 Washington 120min, DAR Consituition Hall

picture: A sound: A

comments: 3rd gen. One of the best '98 vids. Shot from straight on with good camerwork (tripod) - focuses on the right band member during solos, etc. There are a few heads which block the view for a couple of seconds (nothing major).

05/30/00 London, England 120min, Wembley Arena

picture: A sound: A

comments: 2nd gen. Shot from Mike's side of the stage. Some obstruction from heads in front of the taper throughout the show. Overall a nice vid and a good show.

06/22/00 Milan, Italy 130min *coming soon*

picture: A sound: A

08/23/00 Jones Beach, NY 120min

picture: A sound: B

comments: 2nd gen. 2-cam mix. One shot from big screen, one shot straight on. Sound is a bit muffled by the wind. Good camera work in general, some video pauses.

08/24/00 Jones Beach, NY 120min

picture: A sound: A+

comments: 2nd gen. Audio from SDB FM.

10/05/00 Toronto, Ont - Air Canada Center 130min

picture: A sound: A

MuchMusic Spotlight 1995 30min

picture: A sound: A

comments: Features all the PJ videos (Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, Hunger Strike). As well as some interviews from the earlier years.

Musiqueplus Special - Perle Rare 60min

picture: A sound: A

comments: Aired 3/15/98 on french Canadian music station. Contains live clips, videos and rare interviews, including the Stone and Jeff interview for MuchMusic done in November '97. There are french subtitles but all of it is in English.
