Welcome to the
Philadelphia Area Space Alliance (PASA) home page.
PASA is an umbrella organization of area space activists who want
to open up
the space frontier to everyone. Our members represent these groups:
PASA's history dates back to the 1970s,
when it was originally formed
as the Space Future Society.
This society later became known as L5 Philadelphia, a chapter of the L5 Society.
(The 'L5' referred to a reference point in space near the Moon well suited for a space colony.)
When the L5 Society merged with the National Space Institute,
the National Space
Society was born, and the local space chapter became NSS Philadelphia.
To facilitate networking between space groups,
NSS Philadelphia expanded to form the Philadelphia
Area Space Alliance in 1995.
