Sleep Gently, Dear Soldier Sleep gently, Dear Soldier The battle has been won. May you find the peace you fought for. In the calm of the setting sun. May the moon and stars and winds and rain a silent vigil keep. And in the hush of twilight, may you rest in peaceful sleep. The roar of gun and canon Have been silenced, Thanks to you A hush has fallen o'er the dew. And while we struggle still for peace Dear Soldier, do you know Old Glory soars because of you and we thank you for it so. Now you are safe with Him, Above a hero gallant, True. So lay your head upon His breast. And Rest - Dear Soldier - Do. Author Unknown (Found in the halls of the VA Medical Center Newington, CT) |

Let them in Peter For they are very tired Give them couches where the angels sleep And light those fires Let them wake whole again To brand new dawns Fired by the sun Not war-times bloody guns May there peace be deep Remember where the broken bodies lie God knows how young they were To have to die Give them things they like Let them make some noise Give dance hall bands not golden harps To these our boys Let them love Peter For they've had no time They should have bird songs and trees And hills to climb The taste of summer And a ripened pear And girls sweet as meadow wind And flowing hair And tell them how they are missed But say not to fear It's gonna be all right With us down here Edwin McCain |

To twisted burning steel We sat and watched with tearing eyes It seemed untrue, surreal We have all been hurt so deep inside No way to measure cost And through the days our hearts have cried Just thinking of the lost. The world is sharing in our grief And suffering in our pain Each hour turns another day Seems many lost in vain The flames are lit the flowers laid In honor of the dead And through it all the world as one Each day is stronger spread I reach my heart to all the world And share with them my grief I pour my words upon this page Although they may sound brief My life has changed as many have The future holds unsure I know we will arise from this With strength and truth so pure All will grieve for those we lost Yet my hope will never sway For this I pledge my heart and soul Each minute, each hour, each day.
