A native of Chicago, Illinois, Paul received his BA in economics in 2000 from the University of Michigan. Paul only recently began painting when diagnosed with Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy in June 2001. The condition causes profound vision loss, leaving Paul legally blind. He was unable to enroll in a Masters program in architecture at Michigan.

Inspired by the works of Spanish artist Jose Mosquera, Paul focuses less on fine details and more on compelling color tones and elegant composition. Pauls artistic goal is to paint with his vision, rather than struggle with his condition, hopefully creating a visual statement that speaks equally clearly to viewers of a wide range of visual acuity.
