Forgotten, not Forgiven

The Science Exhibition, September ’93. Arm in arm, my friend and I are walking around, looking at the exhibits. Two minutes later, we run into the Vice Principal, Mrs. Ziarat. She points out and says that it is not nice to do that. I get very angry with her but cannot say a word. The irony: the friend was a male. The question: are you telling me that I can't walk around with my boy friend, even if we are arm in arm?

This is one of the first incidents I can recall of Mrs. Ziarat's oppression. There were many to follow. e.g., She did not allow me to do a little break dance number on stage, during a fair-well party. Whenever I got in trouble and she usually handled the case, she called me a 'leader' for instigating the incident. She knew my family well, and used that knowledge against me. However, she never threatened me. She never abused me, verbally or physically. The oppression was always mental, hence silent. She had acquired a psychological power, whereby she would cover up poison in sugar and I would eat it like a baby, with a smile and a thank-you note. Yes, she was a very sweet talker.

A teenager at that time, I did not know how to deal with the oppression and consequent the anger. Thus I retaliated, or at least I planned to. Every time I faced her oppression, I decided to scream my heart out the next time she did that to me, regardless of the consequences. I not do it. It was not that I could not bring myself to humiliating her and myself, but in her presence, I was always speechless, powerless and defenseless. I could not do that a year after I left the institution. That power was not magic.

I believe that she went on a trip to Karachi, Pakistan, and took lessons in hypnosis. I would agree that this is a totally absurd idea: who would go to these lengths to be in power? But the truth is that this is the only rational explanation I could find. I mean, where the hell does this woman come from? Two years ago people did not know her and those who did, did not give a damn, and now everyone fears her? That’s preposterous. No one can acquire that power in such a short period. Still, I would have to agree with an argument in her defense that those who want power find weird ways to get it.

Anyway, I will turn this "X-File" over to Mulder and Scully and they will take care of the rest.
