The academy will close after 40 years of operation. Its financial director speculated late last year that unless would-be donors started shelling out money, the school would most likely close.
The academy has been plagued by dwindling enrollment and falling academics, its administrators said. It started aggressive outside fundraising by contacting alumni and putting on festivals to draw donors, but the efforts just weren't enough.
Pioneer Christian Academy was founded as a non-denominational school opened to children of all faiths and backgrounds.
Two new schools have plans to take over the building this fall: the new Jonathan Edwards Classical Academy, a non-denominational Christian school, and Nashville Global Academy, a new Metro charter school.
