19. Cut a piece of suede-cloth twice
the size of the Fan Back
pattern piece. Press iron-on
adhesive to the suede-cloth
with a dry iron.
20. Peel off the paper backing.
Fold in half and press the two
layers together with a steam iron.
Press in the direction of the nap.
21. Punch a hole in the center
of the pattern.
22. Trace around the pattern on
to the fabric, marking the center.
23. Rule in your cutting line
from the center mark to the edge.
24. Cut along the cutting line
from the edge to the marked
center.
25. Using the fold lines marked
on the pattern as general guide
lines, press accordian pleats
to make a half circle fan.
26. Mold the fan into shape by
steam pressing around something
rounded, such as a wooden craft
ball, a golf ball, etc.
27. Spread the fan out slightly
and stitch or glue to one of the
hatbands. If you are planning to
leave the hat undecorated, stitch
or glue the fan to the inside edge
of the band.
28. You can do a little more steam
shaping at this point if the fan
needs it.


Trim the hat with braid, flowers, feathers, or netting.
