JACKET LINING

With photographs and instructions
by Marsha Olson
(printout 5 pages)

1. Follow the Jacket instructions 1 through 5 to construct the lining.

2. Press the armhole edges to the inside along the staystitched line.
3. Stitch the side seams, clipping as needed to match the two edges.
4. Press the side seams open.
5. Right sides together, pin the lining to the jacket.
Note* - If you are lining the sleeves, leave an opening to turn in the center back hem.
Stitch around all the edges; front, neck, and hem. Trim as needed, clip corners and curves.
6. Turn right side out and press the edges, rolling the lining slightly to the inside as you press.
7. Hand stitch the armhole edges of the lining to the jacket armhole.
8. Mark the buttonhole with pins or disappearing fabric marker.
9. Stitch the buttonhole any size you wish.
I used a smaller size (1/2") so it would stay hidden behind the scarf or if I wanted to remove the scarf, it is small enough to be covered by a pin or silk flower corsage.

10.Clip open the buttonhole.
11. Hem the edges of the scarf with a rolled machine hem or hem by hand.
12. Tack the corner of the scarf with a few hand stitches to the inside of the shoulder seam on the right side.
13. Pull the scarf around the neck and through the buttonhole, fold and fan the scarf out for an attractive finishing touch.
