For more information ask "US"!

Summary: The Document you have selected is relative to most Software and includes the
recommended instructions to uninstall and reinstall Software.

Perform the following procedures if:
You are getting General Protection Faults when you click on Restore, or
The main Software program screen only flashes and disappears without starting when the icon is double-clicked, or
You are getting Illegal Operation errors when you try to use the program, or
You are getting messages regarding missing or corrupted files when you try to use the program, or
You were able to use Software with no problems until reinstalling it to your brand new computer, where it is now freezing.

How Do I Reinstall Software?

Software conflicts can cause installation problems in Windows. These conflicts can occur when you try to install software while other software is running in memory. There are literally thousands of software titles on the market, and this makes it impossible to account for all of the potential conflicts. As a consequence, the best way to ensure a successful installation is to disable all memory resident software before installing ANY software. Please follow these easy steps.

Reboot. ***Means "Restart" Your Computer***

  1. Click Start
  2. Move cursor to Programs/"XYZ" UnInstall (**XYZ** = Your progam name***)
  3. Click Uninstall "XYZ"
  4. Follow the prompts

Reboot.

*(Turn OFF! Screen Saver! and then Do #5 if Problems with Scan Disk n Defrag!)*

  1. Run the Windows hard drive utilities Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter to identify and fix any errors on your hard drive: Ignore the other options, and click OK. Click Start. ScanDisk begins scanning your drive for errors. Depending on the size of your hard drive, ScanDisk may take several minutes to complete its job.

  2. When ScanDisk is finished, exit ScanDisk and start Disk Defragmenter (located in the same place as ScanDisk). Click OK to start Disk Defragmenter. Disk defragmenting may take several minutes to complete.
  3. Exit Disk Defragmenter when it is finished defragmenting your disk. Next, delete the contents of the Windows/Temp folder, following these steps:
  4. Click Start/Shut Down, select Restart(*Reboot*) the computer, and click Yes to restart your machine.
  5. Disable all software running in the background:
USE *** End It ALL *** or
Hold down the CTRL+ALT keys on your keyboard, and then press the DEL key once. The Close Program dialog box appears. Click End Task for every item on the list except Explorer * and Systray * (if you have a lot of software running in the background, you will have to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Close Program dialog box to end each task).
If ONLY want to see Explorer and Systray in the Close Program dialog box, click Cancel.
    ** ALSO Turn-OFF Screen Saver! **
  6. Now you are ready to run the setup program from the "XYZ" CD. Once "XYZ" has finished installation, please reboot your computer.
*IF* "XYZ" includes updating technology in the interest of keeping your programs current. We highly recommend that you use this feature to keep your "XYZ" product current.
*Don't TRY Updating, IF You have a Illegal Copy = Jeez!*

To update "XYZ":

  1. Disable all software running in the background: hold down the CTRL+ALT keys on your keyboard, and then press the DEL key once. The Close Program dialog box appears. Click End Task for every item on the list except Explorer * and Systray * (if you have a lot of software running in the background, you will have to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Close Program dialog box to end each task). If you see only Explorer * and Systray * in the Close Program dialog box, click Cancel.
  2. Connect to the Internet.
  3. Open "XYZ".
  4. Click Update.
  5. Install the "XYZ" update(s). If it does not have a updater, then check with the "XYZ" company on line for any offered ones or ASK them!

What will this do/Why does this work:

Sometimes an installation is not able to perform its function properly if the computer being installed to is not optimally prepared for an application installation. When this occurs, there is a greater risk of having a corrupted installation. Uninstalling the program, preparing the computer, and then reinstalling will insure a much cleaner installation.
